University of Detroit Mercy head women's basketball coach
Autumn Rademacher has announced that three student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Titan basketball squad, beginning with the 2009-10 season. The signees are:
Demeisha Fambro (G, 5-9, Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech),
Kassandra Hooten (F, 6-0, Moorhead, MN/Moorhead) and
Cherridy Thornton (F, 6-1, Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior).
Demeisha Fambro (G, 5-9, Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech)
Will graduate from Crockett Tech High School in 2009… Three year varsity letterwinner in basketball… Earned All-Detroit and All-Michigan honors junior season… Named team Most Important Player (2008), Most Outstanding Player (2007) and Most Dedicated (2006)… Named to the Rise All-Area Second Team junior season and the fourth team in 2007… Earned all-league honors junior year… Set career-highs in points (29), assists (9), steals (7) and rebounds (10) while with the Rockets… Three year varsity letterwinner in track & field… Competed in both all-city and all-state meets in the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays in 2007… Tabbed as a scholar-athlete junior year… Played two seasons for both AAU squads, Team Detroit (under RJ Eddie) and Instant Offense… Selected to compete with the Detroit's Finest National Team (2007-08)… Earned assistant principal honors first two years at CTHS and principal honors junior season… Member of the H.O.S.A. (Health Occupations Students of America) and the National Honor Society… Served on Student Council for three years.
“Demeisha Fambro is one of the best guards in the state of Michigan under Coach Robert Giles and we are thrilled that she has decided to stay home and play for the University of Detroit Mercy,” said Rademacher. “She is a phenomenal scorer, an excellent passer, and we are looking forward to her contributing to our program immediately.”
Kassandra Hooten (F, 6-0, Moorhead, MN/Moorhead)
Will graduate from Moorhead High School in 2009… Five-year varsity letterwinner in basketball at MHS… Earned All-Minnesota Honorable Mention honors junior season… Named captain of the Spuds for two seasons… Has played in 85 career games thus far… Heading into senior year, has a career total of 96 steals, 117 assists, 602 rebounds and 48 blocks… Tallied 1,000th career point junior season… Played AAU ball for the Minnesota Starts, Hardwood Threat and the Polars… Hardwood Threat collected three tournament champion titles during her one season… Played volleyball for the Spuds… Served as team captain for a season.
“Kassie Hooten is a versatile, 6'1 power forward that is very aggressive offensively and has a tremendous presence in the post,” added Rademacher. “She also has the ability to step outside and shoot from the perimeter which instantly makes her a candidate for playing time. We are really looking forward to bringing Kassie's blue collar work ethic all the way from Moorhead High School in Minnesota under Coach Jim Kapitan to the University of Detroit Mercy.”
Cherridy Thornton (F, 6-1, Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior)
Will graduate from Frank Cody Senior High School in 2009… Three year varsity letterwinner in basketball at FCHS… Ranked first in Class of 2009 for Prep Spotlight in 2007 and 2008 and second freshman season… Earned The Detroit News Freshman First Team and sophomore first team honors… Named to The Detroit News Upperclassmen Second Team in 2008… Collected All-Detroit honors from The Detroit Free Press first three years at FCSHS… Earned regional and all-state honorable mention honors freshman and sophomore seasons, respectively… Heads into senior year averaging 20.0 points per game, 9.0 rpg and 3.0 apg.
“Cherridy Thornton is a guard trapped in a 6'1 body at Detroit Cody High School under Coach Charles Knott,” commented Rademacher. “She has very good ball handling skills, can score from the perimeter, and can also post up inside. We are very fortunate that Cherridy has opted to stay home to play for her hometown Detroit Titans and we are looking forward to her making a significant contribution to our program right away.”
