ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN
Eastern Michigan enters the contest at 1-2, dropping its last two decisions to Purdue (87-58) and to Georgia (61-60) in the North Regional of the NIT Season Tip-Off, held at West Lafayette, IN.
The Eagles started the new season crushing NAIA member Marygrove, 119-48. That contest featured over 160 combined shots with EMU outrebounding the Mustangs, 76-37.
EMU will be without senior point guard Carlos Medlock, who is out for the year after suffering a broken foot in the pre-season.
Eastern likes to get the ball inside to its two big men, junior Justin Dobbins and sophomore Brandon Bowdry. Bowdry leads the team in scoring (18.3) and rebounding (9.3). He is also hitting on 61-percent of his field goals (24-of-39) but he does have 14 turnovers on the year compared to just three assists.
Dobbins is second on the team with 16.3 points per game and is third in rebounds with 6.3 a night.
Charles Ramsey is in his fourth-year as the head men's basketball coach at Eastern Michigan. He owns an overall record of 35-59.
Prior to the start of the season, EMU was selected to finish second in the MAC West Division. The Eagles also received two votes to win the MAC Tournament.
CLIPPING THE EAGLES WINGS
To say that Detroit has enjoyed the best of this series might be an understatement. The Titans are 55-15 all-time against Eastern Michigan, and have won six in a row and seven of the last eight versus the Eagles. Last season, the Titans staged a dramatic comeback in Ypsilanti, winning the contest 72-68 after falling behind by as many as 12 in the second half.
Detroit is 22-5 against EMU at home since 1935. Between 1936 and 1969, UDM won 33 of 34 against the Eagles, including 22 straight games at one point.
MATCH-UP #71
