The UDM men's basketball team will look to continue its winning ways when the Titans head to Chicago for a match-up with DePaul University on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (EST) at Allstate Arena.
Matt Dery, “The Voice of the Titans”, will have the call live on WDTW-AM 1310.
The Titans come into the game at 1-2 after knocking off Eastern Michigan on Saturday, 62-47. DePaul is 2-0 on the young season, including a 67-63 road victory over Horizon League member UIC last Saturday.
This will be the 36th meeting between the two Catholic Universities. DePaul owns the overall series 25-10, with the Blue Demons winning 10 of the last 11 games. DePaul upended Detroit, 70-64, last year in Calihan Hall. UDM's last victory was in 1994, when Detroit took an 86-80 home decision.
Detroit is 2-11 all-time in the Windy City against DePaul, with its last victory coming 60 years ago, a 38-36 overtime triumph in 1938.
ABOUT DEPAUL
The Blue Demons enter the contest at 2-0 after taking out in-state rival and Horizon League member UIC, 67-63, on the road Saturday. DePaul started the year with a 75-64 home victory over Albany.
DePaul is a young team with five freshmen and four sophomores on its 12-man roster. The Blue Demons were picked to finish 15th in the BIG EAST in the conferences pre-season poll.
Junior guard Will Walker leads the team in scoring at 18 points per game. He is shooting 45-percent from the field (14-of-31), but is only 1-of-6 from behind the arc and 7-of-13 from the free-throw line. Sophomore forward Dar Tucker is second on the team with 17.5 ppg., to go with five rebounds a night.
DePaul brings some size to the line-up with a pair of 6-10 centers in sophomore Mac Koshwal and senior Matija Poscic. Koshwal is averaging a team-best 12.5 rebounds as well as netting 11 points per night, while Poscic is tallying five boards and four points a game.
Jerry Wainwright is in his fourth year at the helm of DePaul and, overall, his 15th year as a Division I head coach. He is 45-38 at the Catholic University, including a 20-14 campaign during the 2006-07 season.
AGAINST THE BIG EAST
Detroit has not fared well against the BIG EAST conference. The Titans are 63-160 against current teams from the conference, but they do have a pair of post-season wins with a 67-61 victory over Connecticut in the NIT in 2001 and a 66-64 triumph over St. John's in the 1998 NCAA Tournament.
REMEMBER THIS
The last time Detroit defeated a BIG EAST team was on March 18, 2001, when the Titans went into Gampel Pavilion and stunned Connecticut, 67-61, in the second round of the NIT.
TITAN TAKEAWAYS
Detroit forced 26 EMU turnovers in its 62-47 victory on Nov. 22. It was the most turnovers the Titans have forced since Michigan had 27 against Detroit during the 1998-99 campaign.
UDM also had 11 steals in the game, making it the second-straight contest the Titans have come away with 10+ steals. The last time that occurred was during the 2004-05 season when Detroit managed 16 steals against Youngstown State and 11 versus Cleveland State.
