The Titans (3-6) and Fighting Illini (9-1) have hooked up eight times with Illinois owning a 7-1 margin in the all-time series. The last contest between the programs occurred in 1974 when Illinois edged U-D, 64-60. The Titans have also dropped all six games in Champaign.
UDM AND THE BIG TEN
UDM has had its moments against members of the Big Ten, most notably beating Michigan State three years in a row from 1995-98, but overall, UDM has struggled against the conference. Detroit is 28-108 all-time against the league's current members, with its last win coming during the 1997-98 campaign when the Titans edged the Spartans, 68-65. UDM open up the 2008-09 season with an 82-50 loss to Purdue.
SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
The Detroit-Illinois match-up on Saturday marks the first time in 10 years that the Titans will have played two teams from the Big Ten conference in a year. During the 1998-99 season, Detroit dropped a 62-55 decision at Michigan and ended the campaign with a 75-44 loss in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Ohio State. The last time UDM played two teams from the conference in the regular season was in 1997-98 when the Titans defeated Michigan State 68-65 on the road, while losing a heartbreaking 54-53 home game against Michigan.
