Fencing Hosts Successful Alumni Event

Photo Gallery

As a part of the 2009 Homecoming celebration, the Detroit Titans fencing team hosted an alumni meet Saturday morning at Calihan Hall. Far removed from active collegiate competition, the alumni stood tall and defeated the current fencing team, 27-18.

The exhibition format called for each alumnus to fence every member from the current team in their respective weapon. In the sabre competition, the alumni team defeated the current squad 14-6 with help from head coach Todd Dressell, who also fenced with the former fencers. In foil action, the teams tied at 10 each while the alumni edged the current team, 3-2, in the epee competition.

“It's really great that our alumni came out which gave our current team a chance to reconnect with them and experience the rich Detroit fencing tradition from generations past,” said Dressell. “After a two-year hiatus, I am thankful we were able host such a great event in conjunction with the homecoming festivities.”

Coach Dressell and the 2008-09 fencing team would like to thank the following alumni and supporters for attending the event:
