The UDM men's basketball team opened up its two-game conference Indiana road trip with a 64-41 loss at Valparaiso on Thursday night.
Juniors
Thomas Kennedy (Detroit, MI/Southeastern) and
Nemanja Jokic (Sombor, Serbia/ Mechanical) paced Detroit with nine points apiece, while senior
Michael Harrington (Country Club Hills, IL/Rich Central) added eight points and six rebounds.
The Titans (4-10, 0-5 HL) took an early 9-6 lead at the 14:45 mark, but were then held scoreless for the next 10 minutes of play as Valparaiso (5-11, 2-3 HL) ran off 12 straight points to jump out in front, 18-9.
UDM answered that with five quick points off baskets by Jokic and sophomore
Ryan Janer (Bay City, MI/All Saints) to get within four, 18-14, but the Crusaders ended the half on a 13-2 run to take a 31-16 advantage at the half.
Detroit fought hard in the second period, but the Crusaders were too much pushing its lead to as many as 29, before earning the 23-point victory.
The Titans return to action on Saturday, when Detroit travels to Indianapolis to face the No. 20 Butler Bulldogs. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. (EST).
