One last test awaits the Titan men's and women's cross country team as Detroit will compete in its final race before the Horizon League Championships tomorrow with the Falcon Invite in Bowling Green, OH.
Over 20 teams will be on hand with 10 squads from the Division I ranks, including Cleveland State, Wright State and Youngstown State from the conference.
The women, who will run in their first 6k race of the season, have showed improvement in every race, led by senior
Beata Gorzynska (Ilawa, Poland/Mazurski of Olsztynie) and freshman
Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI/Marine City).
“We have made great progress this year and are ready for the first 6k of the season,” said head coach
Guy Murray. “It will be a good field and a good course to get a 6k in, and we ran well here last year.”
The men have made strides all year long despite a few harriers battling some lingering injuries throughout the season.
Senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park) has been the top runner for much of the year, but the Titans are preparing to run their full squad as they get ready for the conference meet.
“This will only be our second time running the full line-up this year so it is a pretty important race for us,” said Murray. “We really need to put a good full team effort together to show we are ready to make an impact at the Horizon League championships.”
“All indications are that this will be a good race for us and now we have to go out, compete hard and run fast. It is a fast course and a very good field for the men as EMU, Oakland and the No. 1 NAIA team Malone will join the field from last year.”
The Horizon League Championships, hosted by Detroit, will take place on Halloween Saturday at 11 a.m. in Kensington Metropark.
