Horizon League Women's Basketball Pre-Season Poll Announced

The Detroit Titans women's basketball team was chosen eighth in the 2009-10 Horizon League pre-season poll as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon. The voting was comprised of all 10 league head coaches, sports information directors and selected members of the media.

UDM returns three starters and seven letterwinners from the 2008-09 campaign, which the Titans ended with a 12-19 overall record and a 7-11 mark in Horizon League play to finish the year eighth in the conference.

Green Bay, which has claimed at least a share of the Horizon League's regular-season crown in each of the past 11 seasons, was picked first in the poll. The Phoenix tied a Horizon League record with 29 victories a season ago and became the first League squad to go 18-0 in conference action.

Cleveland State University, Butler University, the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee rank two through five in the League's pre-season poll.

The Titans face Saginaw Valley State in an exhibition match-up on Nov. 4 at Calihan Hall (4 p.m.) and Detroit will open up its 2009-10 regular season at Oakland on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.
