The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team returns home on Saturday to host Loyola in a Horizon League match-up at Titan Field, with kick-off slated for noon. This is UDM's first home game since a match-up against Wright State on Oct. 10.
Detroit sophomore
Otieno Victor (Kisumu Nyanza, Kenya/Kakamega) leads his team in both goals (4) and points (8), while senior Ken Simon (Brighton, MI/Brighton) and freshman
Kevin Pinkos (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston) have each dished out a team-high three assists. In addition, Titan sophomore
Sam Seppo (Port Huron, MI/Port Huron) has collected a team second-best three goals, while senior
Nick Dreshaj (Clinton Twp., MI/Chippewa Valley) has scored two goals and earned two assists through 15 games.
Loyola (3-7-4, 0-4-2 HL) heads into Saturday's contest on a three-game losing streak, with the most recent outing a 2-1 overtime setback against UIC at home. The last time the Ramblers won was on Sept. 20 against Oral Roberts (2-1) and the last tie for LUC was at home against DePaul on Oct. 14 (2-2). Senior Mark Halma leads Loyola with three goals and seven points, while teammate senior Eric Gehrig has tallied a team-high three assists.
The Titans lead the overall series with Loyola, 14-10-1, which includes a 2-1 victory for Detroit on the Ramblers’ home field on Sept. 26, 2008 and the last time LUC came to the Motor City, the game ended in a scoreless tie (Oct. 5, 2007). The Titans are hoping to mirror the ‘treats’ of 2004, which marks the last time UDM won on Halloween as Detroit captured a 4-1 victory over visiting Oakland.
Detroit (3-11-1, 1-5) will next take a break from conference action as the Titans will make the short trip to Bowling Green, OH, to face the Falcons on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.
