Video Preview On The Titan YouTube Channel
The UDM men’s lacrosse team has been hard at work this fall and now the Titans will get a chance to see how their training and conditioning is going as Detroit will play two exhibition games at the 3rd Annual Nick Colleluori Classic tomorrow.
The event will have 10 Division I teams on hand at Ridley High School in Folsom, PA, with each team competing in two scrimmages with 20-minute quarters and running clock. Detroit is set to play new MAAC rival St. Joseph’s at 9 a.m. and Lafayette at 11.
“The most important thing is player evaluations,” said head coach
Matt Holtz. “The fall training has gone real well and I am real excited for this team, but it will be good to play someone in a different uniform.”
The event is sponsored by The HEADstrong Foundation, which was help founded by Nick Colleluori, a lacrosse player at Hofstra University who lost his battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2006 at the age of 21. The event is held annual at his high school and was created as a way to raise money for blood cancer cures, treatment, research and awareness.
To help raise funds, each school in the tournament is required to sell 300 HEADstrong T-Shirts. The shirts bear the HEADstrong Foundation logo on the front with the No. 27, Colleluori’s number, with the phrase “RELENTLESS” above it. To help the event’s cause, you can purchase a shirt for $15 by contacting assistant coach Chris Kolon at 313-578-0414 or at christopher.kolon@udmercy.edu.
