SERIES RECORD
Detroit is 7-15 all-time against Michigan State, which includes an 85-48 loss to the Spartans in East Lansing on Nov. 19, 2008. The last time MSU visited Calihan Hall was on Dec. 11, 2004 and UDM fell by a score of 73-64 to the 12th ranked Spartans and the Titans last defeated MSU on Dec. 20, 1994 by a score of 75-70 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
MSU, ranked 10th in both the AP and USA Today/ESPN polls, opened up its 2009-10 campaign on Friday and fell at Dayton by a score of 77-74. Four Spartans scored in double figures, with Courtney Schiffauer pouring in a game-high 21 points and she also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

FACING RANKED OPPONENTS
The last time Detroit faced a ranked opponent at Calihan Hall was when the Titans captured a historic 70-66 victory over #23 Georgia on Nov. 22.

DOUBLE OR NOTHING
Sophomore Yar Shayok, whose 2008-09 season was cut short due to an injury, made a huge impact for the Titans against Oakland on Friday as she collected a double-double with game-highs in both points and rebounds with 26 and 14, respectively. Shayok shot 11-of-14 from the field, 4-of-5 from the line and 10 of her caroms came on the defensive end.

MAKING HER DEBUT
Freshman guard Demeisha Fambro played in her first collegiate game on Friday and made it memorable as she scored a team second-best 17 points after shooting 5-of-11 from the field. She also pulled down a team second-best seven rebounds and added two assists in 33 minutes of play.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Four Titans scored in double figures against the Golden Grizzlies in Shayok (26), sophomore Jalesa Jones (12), senior Brigid Mulroy (14) and Fambro (17).

BIG TEN TEAMS TO CALIHAN
Michigan State and Michigan will both visit Calihan Hall this year, which is the first time since the 2001-02 season in which Detroit has hosted both Big Ten teams. The Titans open up their home season against MSU (Nov. 15) and will then host the Wolverines on Dec. 19.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A HALF MAKES
The Titans shot 36 percent in the first half on Friday and came back from the break to shoot 61 percent in the second stanza, compared to a 29 percent effort from the Golden Grizzlies.

ALMOST PERFECTION
Sophomore Jalesa Jones made eight of her nine attempts at the charity stripe Friday afternoon. All together, Detroit shot 75 percent from the line at the O'Rena.

LAST TIME OUT
Behind a dominating performance from sophomore Yar Shayok, who collected a double-double with game-highs in both rebounds (14) and points (26), the Detroit Titans women's basketball team captured a 74-65 victory over Oakland Friday afternoon at the O'Rena in Rochester.

Shayok is not the only Titan who scored in double figures as freshman Demeisha Fambro added 17, senior Brigid Mulroy netted 14 and sophomore Jalesa Jones scored 12 in Detroit's season opening win.
The Titans set the tone in the second half as they scored 10 unanswered points in the opening minutes, which included a 3-pointer from Fambro. That basket pushed Detroit ahead (38-36) for the first time in the game and the Titans would not relinquish their lead the remainder of the contest.

Mulroy started a 13-0 scoring run for the Titans with just over 11 minutes remaining as she made one of her three treys of the afternoon off an assist from Jones. Shayok added four points during that span, with the last basket giving Detroit its largest lead of the game, 60-44, with just under eight minutes to play.

The Titans held on to their double digit lead until freshman Victoria Lipscomb cut OU's deficit to nine (59-68) with two minutes remaining. In the closing minutes, Shayok made both attempts at the line and Fambro had a 2-for-4 showing from the charity stripe and also added a lay-up with eight seconds on the clock to help secure Detroit's season opening win.

The score was tied three times in the opening half, with the last happening after Jones made her second free throw attempt to knot the game at 15 with 12 minutes left. OU had its largest advantage of the game after freshman Bethany Watterworth converted a 3-point play to put the score at 31-21 at the 3:34 mark. But, Shayok was able to pull UDM within three in the closing minute after making a lay-up off an assist from freshman Kassandra Hooten to put the score at 34-31, which is what the scoreboard read at the half.

Detroit shot a resounding 60 percent from the field in the second half, compared to a 29 percent showing from OU. On the afternoon UDM shot 46 percent, while OU ended with a 25-of-70 showing (36 percent). The Titans won the battle of the boards, 42-36, while the Grizzlies dished out 20 assists compared to Detroit's 16.

ENJOYS HELPING OTHERS
Sophomore Jalesa Jones has a good heart and it showed as she dished out a game-high seven assists in Detroit's season-opening win at Oakland on Friday.

WHAT A TURNAROUND

Detroit finished the 2008-09 campaign with a 12-19 overall record, which was a six-game turnaround from the previous season. In addition, the Titans also bettered their Horizon League mark by four games (7-11) from 2007-08 to finish eighth in the conference.

NEW FACES

The Titans welcome three freshmen to this year's team in Demeisha Fambro, Kassandra Hooten and Cherridy Thornton. In addition, junior Tayler Langham joins the roster after transferring to Detroit from Schoolcraft College. Sophomore Dominique Dixon also transferred to Detroit from West Virginia, but will be sitting out the 2009-10 season due to the NCAA transfer rule.
