UDM Men's Basketball Practice Report – Nov. 17

The Titans took Monday off after winning their home opener, 86-80, over Western Michigan. On Tuesday, Detroit went back to work as it gets ready for a tough weekend playing three straight days in the subregional of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. The tournament will feature contests against Robert Morris, host Albany and Alcon State.

Seniors Woody Payne and Thomas Kennedy talked to DetroitTitans.com about the victory over WMU as well as preparing for this weekend.

Senior Guard Woody Payne

On the offense after scoring 86 points against Western Michigan

We have a lot of threats on offense. TK (Thomas Kennedy) can score for us. Chase (Simon) is averaging almost 20 a game so far and Eli (Holman) has been great down low. That opens it up for a lot of other people and against Western Michigan, we did a good job of hitting open shots on reverses and getting to the free throw line.

On the size of the crowd in Sunday's game

It was a great crowd that definitely gave us that extra motivation out there on the court. The more they get into it, we get into it so it was really fun playing in front of a big crowd.

On the Titan defense

We are working really hard in practice on our defense. It is something that the coaches are really emphasizing on holding our opponents at 60 points and doing a better job of getting up on the three-point line. Defense is all about hard work and effort.

Senior Forward Thomas Kennedy

On the depth of this team

We are better all-around and that really takes the pressure off of any one person to score. I was in foul trouble against Western Michigan and the team stepped it up and we were able to still go out there and put points up.

On having four Titans in double figures against Western Michigan

Everybody is an option to score so you really can't double up on one person. That is always a sign of a good offense and I think we will just get better throughout the season.

On playing three games in three days this weekend

We have to really focus in practice in these next few days. We will go over some tape after each game, but this weekend is all about how we prepare right now.
