Detroit women's golf coach Terri Anthony-Ryan announced today that Milan standout Lindsey Lammers has inked a National Letter of Intent with UDM and, in the process, becomes the first Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association All-State Super Team member to sign with the Titans out of high school.
Lammers earned recognition on the Super Team – which includes the high school coaches' choice of the top eight players in the state – after an outstanding 2009 season which saw her win five individual tournament titles, including a Regional in the state tournament. She came in second at the MHSAA Division 3 finals with a 73-78-151 score card. She also helped the fourth-year Milan girls' golf team and head coach Claire Neff to its first team tournament title, at the Southgate Anderson Invitational.
“She's a high profile player, and we're thrilled to have her join the Titan family,” coach Anthony-Ryan said. “Her prep career has been outstanding, and she also has a world of potential ahead. It will be exciting to watch her skill set progress over the next four years.”
Lammers – whose brother Nate played collegiate golf at Toledo – qualified for the state tournament during all four of her varsity years and improved each season. She finished 21st as a freshman, 16th as a sophomore and fourth as a junior, helping her earn first-team Division 2 All-State honors in 2008. In fact, Lammers enjoyed repeat success throughout her high school career, being named to the All-Huron League, All-County and All-Region Teams four seasons each. She was named Region Golfer of the Year by the Monroe News in 2008 and again in 2009, and the Washentaw County Player of the Year as a senior.
Lammers also excelled during her summer tournament schedule, earning a tie for ninth place at the 2009 Michigan Girls' Junior – missing match play by just one stroke – while also finishing 45th at the Michigan Women's Amateur and 57th at the GAM Women's Championship.
“Lindsey is a ball-striker, plain and simple,” UDM assistant coach Kyle Stefan observed. “She hits it long and straight and is accurate with her irons. She plays a variety of finesse shots and rises to the occasion at the biggest tournaments. She's had days at two premier events, the Girls' Junior and State Finals, where she was the best player on the course.”
Also a standout basketball player, Lammers has already earned three varsity letters entering her senior season as the starting point guard for Milan High School.
