Men’s Lacrosse Inks Eight In Early Signing Period

Detroit men's lacrosse head coach Matt Holtz announced today the signing of eight student-athletes for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Signing on to wear the red, white and blue for the Titans are Shayne Adams (St Catherines, ON/Denis Morris), Nick Garippa (Pontiac, MI/Notre Dame Prep), Vince Indiano (Fishers, IN/Cathedral), Danny Kransberger (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Central), Matt Lining (Troy, MI/Athens), Alex Maini (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook), Tom Sible (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Central) and Brian Smith (Riverhead, NY /Riverhead).

Shayne Adams * Attack * 5-9 * 170 * St. Catherines, ON * Denis Morris
A four-year letterwinner and two-time MVP in lacrosse, Adams totaled 45 goals and 29 assists as a senior. He was named Denis Morris' Male Athlete of the Year while leading his school to two Ontario provincial championships. He played club lacrosse for two years with the Niagara Raiders, leading that squad to back-to-back All-Ontario provincial championships.

Coach Holtz on Adams: “Shayne is an extremely skilled attackman who can score goals and dish out assists when needed.”

Nick Garippa * LSM/Defense * 6-0 * 195 * Rochester Hills, MI * Notre Dame Prep
An second team All-State and All-Catholic League performer, Garippa helped lead a defense that allowed under seven goals per game and back-to-back CHSL sectional and B-Division Championships.

Coach Holtz on Garippa: “Nick brings with him the full athletic package of great quickness, strength, size and speed, and he can contribute at either LSM or defense for us.”

Vince Indiano * Midfield/Attack * 5-8 * 175 * Fishers, IN * Cathedral
A three-sport star letterwinner in lacrosse, hockey and soccer, Indiano ended his junior year with 60 goals and 10 assists, helping Cathedral HS to a 17-3 record and the Indiana Catholic Conference title. He also led the Fighting Irish to an Indiana High School Lacrosse Association (IHSLA) state finals appearance as a junior and an IHSLA Final Four mark as a sophomore and a CBC Tournament finalist as a freshman.

Coach Holtz on Indiano: “Vince is an extremely athletic and versatile player who can fill many different roles.”

Danny Kransberger * Goalie * 5-11 * 195 * Grand Rapids, MI * Forest Hills Central
A three-time All-State, All-Conference and All-Area goalie, Kransberger has started every game in net since arriving at Forest Hills Central, compiling a 36-17 record. He has posted three 200+ saves in all three seasons and holds the school record for most saves in a game (22), season (25) and career (701). He has been a leader on a team that has won three straight regional championships, back-to-back conference titles and a trip to the state finals as a sophomore.

Coach Holtz on Kransberger: “Danny is a great ball stopper and does a great job in being the vocal leader of the defense.”

Matt Lining * Midfield * 5-10 * 175 * Troy, MI * Athens
An honorable mention All-State midfielder, Lining helped Troy Athens post an 11-7 mark as a junior and the No. 11 state ranking.

Coach Holtz on Lining: “Matt is a gifted and intelligent player at the midfield who has the ability to create his own opportunities and capitalize when he is in open space.”

Alex Maini * Attack * 6-0 * 200 * Lynbrook, NY * Lynbrook
An All-County honorable mention as a junior, Maini has notched 30 goals, 28 assists and 39 ground balls for the Lynbrook Owls.

Coach Holtz on Maini: “Alex has great size and phenomenal hands. He is a proven goal scorer that can help us out right away.”

Tom Sible * Midfield * 6-0 * 175 * Grand Rapids, MI * Forest Hills Central
Selected first team All-State as a junior, as well as All-Conference and All-Region, Sible has tallied 63 goals and 54 assists so far on the field. He is a teammate of Titan signee Danny Kransberger and the two have been a part of three regional championships, two conference titles and a state runner-up appearance.

Coach Holtz on Sible: “Thomas brings great speed to our midfield, where he has the ability to excel both offensively and defensively.”

Brian Smith * Defense * 6-0 * 190 * Riverhead, NY * Riverhead
Smith was named the team's Most Improved Player as the standout defenseman helped the Blue Waves' defense allow just 6.6 goals per game and a 9-8 record as a junior.

Coach Holtz on Smith: “Brian is a well-rounded, athletic defenseman who will compete for time right away.” 

Detroit will open the 2010 campaign as a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Titans season opener will be on Saturday, Feb. 6, when UDM hosts Bellarmine at Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac.
