DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR?
Detroit leads the overall series with Michigan, 11-8. The last time these two teams met was on Nov. 20, 2006 and the Titans dropped an 86-35 decision in Ann Arbor. UDM last defeated the Wolverines on Jan. 9, 1994 by a score of 79-69 at Calihan Hall. In that game, current Detroit head coach Autumn Rademacher was a freshman for UDM and scored a team-high 18 points after shooting 6-of-18 from the field.
HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS
It's not actually Santa that's visiting Calihan Hall on Saturday, but Michigan. The Wolverines head into Saturday's contest with an 8-2 overall record and a 4-2 mark when playing on the road. They have won four straight, which includes 72-71 victory against No. 8 Xavier on Dec. 14 in Cincinnati. The last loss for Michigan came at New Mexico State on Nov. 28 by a score of 72-67. Junior Veronica Hicks leads the Wolverines with 13.8 points per game, while freshman Jenny Ryan is averaging a team-best 6.3 rpg.
ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS
One thing that could probably be found on Detroit head coach Autumn Rademacher's Christmas list is a win over Michigan. Not only because it is an in-state school and a member of the Big Ten, but because Saturday's contest pits a former mentor against a mentee as Rademacher coached under Michigan head coach Kevin Borseth for three seasons (2004-07) while he was at the helm of Green Bay's women's team.
TEN LORDS A LEAPING
Michigan is the second Big Ten team to visit Calihan Hall this year as Detroit opened up its home slate with a match-up against Michigan State on Nov. 15. The last time UDM hosted both of these teams was during the 2001-02 season.
