Women's Hoops Looks for Season Sweep Against Youngstown State on Thursday

SERIES RECORD

Detroit owns an 11-12 overall record against Youngstown State and the Titans own a 2-9 mark when facing the Penguins in Youngstown. Detroit snapped a five-game losing streak against YSU earlier this season as the Titans captured a 73-50 victory over the Penguins on Jan. 24 at Calihan Hall. The last time UDM defeated YSU on the Penguins' home court was on Jan. 7, 2006 by a score of 77-48.

ABOUT YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Youngstown State (2-21, 0-12 HL) heads into Thursday's contest on a 13-game losing streak. In their last outing, the Penguins dropped a 65-35 decision at Cleveland State on Valentine's Day and the last win for YSU came at home on Dec. 20 against Akron (58-52). Nikkita LaFleur leads the Penguins with 9.1 points per game and is averaging a conferece-best 8.8 rebounds per contest.

MARGIN OF VICTORY
Detroit's 73-50 victory over Youngstown State on Jan. 24 marks the largest margin of victory for the Titans thus far this season since a 61-51 defeat over Colgate in New York on Nov. 29.

SEEING DOUBLE
Junior Brigid Mulroy led all scorers with 15 points against Green Bay on Feb. 14. This marks the 15th time this season in which Mulroy has registered double digit points and the eighth time in which Mulroy has led the Titans or tied for the lead in this category.

STEALS A-PLENTY
Freshman Jalesa Jones registered a personal-best and team-high five steals against Green Bay (Feb. 14) and also grabbed a team second-best six rebounds in 28 minutes of play.

TIES TO YOUNGSTOWN
Current Detroit assistant coach, Carrie Banks, served as a color commentator for Youngstown State during the 2007-08 season for both the Horizon League Network and the Fox affiliate station in Youngstown.

DID YOU KNOW?
The last time Detroit's women's basketball team won a game in the state of Ohio was on Jan. 11, 2007 when the Titans claimed a 64-61 victory over Cleveland State.

GIRLS & WOMEN IN SPORT DAY
The University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Department participated in National Girls & Women in Sport Day, which took place prior to the women's basketball game against Green Bay on Feb. 14 at Calihan Hall. There was an overwhelming response from girls ages 8-13 as more than 150 attended the event.

STREAK SNAPPED
The Titans' 59-50 victory on Feb. 12 snapped a seven game losing streak against Milwaukee as Detroit had not beaten the Panthers the past seven tries. The last win for UDM against UWM came on March 3, 2005 by a score of 59-49 in Wisconsin and the last time the Titans defeated Milwaukee in Detroit was on Feb. 8, 2001 by a score of 84-79.

“FOUR SCORE...”
Detroit had four players score in double figures against Milwaukee on Feb. 12 in Brigid Mulroy (14), Chanica Hall (13), Talicia Washington (11) and Sandi Brown (10). This marks the third time this season that the Titans have had at least four players in double digit scoring with the first at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 20) and the second against Valparaiso (Jan. 10).

FOUR TIMES OVER
Senior Sandi Brown came off the bench against Milwaukee on Feb. 12 to collect her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

START YOUR ENGINES
One Titan has started all 24 games for Detroit this season in junior Brigid Mulroy, who is averaging a team second-best 10.9 points per game.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS

Senior Sandi Brown cracked the top 20 in Detroit's record books as she now owns 878 career points to sit in the 20th slot. Terri Ford, who played for the Titans from 1986-90, is 19th with 890 career points.

DOUBLIN' UP
Senior Sandi Brown has poured in double figure points 16 times thus far this season and has led the Titans in scoring on 10 occasions.

LAST TIME OUT

The Detroit Titans women's basketball team dropped a 59-44 decision to Green Bay in a Horizon League match-up at Calihan Hall on Feb. 14.

The first half was opened with seven straight baskets from long range, two of which came from Detroit junior Brigid Mulroy, who finished with a game-best 15 points. After being down, 15-6, the Titans were then able to pull within five (15-10) after junior Chanica Hall made a layup off an assist from freshman Jalesa Jones with just under 13 minutes left.

Green Bay responded with a 10-0 run, which was halted after UDM senior Sandi Brown made both free throw attempts to put the score at 25-12 with 7:06 on the clock. Junior Heather Hatter (Howell, MI/Howell) added two points shortly there after and Mulroy pulled UDM within 10 (31-21) with 22 seconds remaining as she drained a 3-pointer, but Phoenix sophomore Heather Golden hit one from beyond the arc as time expired to put the halftime score at 34-21.

About six minutes into the second stanza, Detroit was able to cut the deficit to 12 after Brown, who ended with a game-high nine rebounds, dished out a pass to Jones who made a fastbreak layup to put the score at 43-31. Green Bay had its largest lead of 19, twice, with the last coming at 4:20 after Phoenix senior Erin Templin hit a lay-up to have the scoreboard read, 38-57.

Detroit answered with four consecutive made free throws and UDM freshman Lauren Allen made the last field goal of the game with just under two minutes remaining.

The Titans shot 35 percent on the afternoon (15-of-43), while the Phoenix had a 22-of-47 showing from the field (47 percent). Detroit edged Green Bay in rebounds, 29-27, while the Phoenix tallied 14 steals to UDM's nine.

The UDM athletics department recognized the WBCA Pink Zone initiative on Valentine's Day. The Pink Zone is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

WHERE ARE THE TITANS?
As of Feb. 18, senior Sandi Brown is seventh in the league in scoring average (12.2 ppg), while junior Brigid Mulroy is 11th (10.9 ppg). In addition, Brown stands fifth in rebounding (7.0 rpg), seventh in steals (2.2), fourth in offensive rebounds (2.7) and sixth in defensive rebounds (4.3). Mulroy is 10th in 3-point FG percentage (.368) and third in 3-pointers made (2.0), while junior Chanica Hall ranks fourth in assists per game (3.9) and seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.2). In addition, freshman Jalesa Jones is eighth in assists per game (3.0).

ASSISTING OTHERS
Prior to Feb. 6, junior Chanica Hall had collected seven assists on eight occasions, but Hall set a new career-high against Valparaiso as she dished out a game-high eight helpers.

SEASON-HIGHS
As a team, Detroit set a couple season-highs against Valparaiso on Feb. 6 in rebounds (49) and made free throws (25). The previous season-bests were both set at Loyola on Jan. 3 with 47 rebounds and 22 free throws.

STEALING AWAY
Detroit's 13 steals against YSU on Jan. 24 matches its season-high from UDM's 76-75 double overtime victory at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 20).

OVERTIME AT CALIHAN
Detroit's overtime game against Valparaiso on Jan. 10 marked the first time the Titans played an extra session at Calihan Hall since a 74-73 setback against Milwaukee on Jan. 27, 2005.

ANOTHER FIRST
In her first Horizon League game at the helm of the Detroit Titans women's basketball program, head coach Autumn Rademacher notched a 71-64 win at Loyola on Jan. 3.

DOUBLE OR NOTHING
Two Titans registered double-doubles against Loyola on Jan. 3 in redshirt freshman Talicia Washington and senior Sandi Brown. Washington scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Brown pulled down a game-high 11 caroms and poured in 12 points.

TWO EXTRA SESSIONS
Prior to Detroit's 76-75 double-overtime win at Eastern on Dec. 20, 2008, the last time the Titans played in a double overtime contest was a 107-102 setback to Kentucky on Dec. 28, 1983 in Detroit.

PLENTY OF POINTS
The 76 point showing at Eastern Michigan on Dec. 20 marks the most points the Titans have scored in a single game since a 78-65 victory against Wright State in Detroit on Feb. 19, 2004.

VS. RANKED TEAMS
The Detroit Titans made history on Nov. 22 as UDM defeated #23 Georgia by a score of 70-66 at Calihan Hall. This marked the first time since the conference changed its name to the Horizon League (2001-02) in which the Titans defeated a ranked opponent. UDM now owns a 1-11 mark in this category.

GOING BACK IN TIME
Detroit's win over Southeastern Conference member school, Georgia, was the first win against an SEC school since Nov. 23, 1979 when the Titans defeated Louisiana State by a score of 84-76 in Detroit. Prior to Saturday's victory, the Titans had lost 13 straight to SEC schools.

COACHING DEBUT AT HOME
Autumn Rademacher coached her first game for the Titans on UDM's home court against #23 Georgia and Detroit came out on the winning end, 70-66. Since the start of UDM women's basketball (1977-78), Rademacher and the eight full-time head coaches prior, now own a collective 4-5 record in their coaching debut on Detroit's home court.

DETROIT INKS THREE
UDM head coach Autumn Rademacher announced that three student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Titans, beginning with the 2009-10 season. The signees are: Demeisha Fambro (G, 5-9, Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech), Kassandra Hooten (F, 6-0, Moorhead, MN/Moorhead) and Cherridy Thornton (F, 6-1, Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior).

FINAL FOUR IN DETROIT
The University of Detroit Mercy will serve as the host institution for the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Final Four, which will be held on April 4 & 6, 2009 at Ford Field in Detroit, MI.
