Women's Hoops Set for Horizon League Clash with Wright State on Saturday

SERIES RECORD

Detroit holds a slight 18-14 advantage in the overall series with Wright State, which includes a 9-6 mark when playing on the Titans home court. The Raiders have won the past five meetings, which includes a 65-58 victory earlier this season in Ohio (Jan. 31). The last time the Titans defeated WSU was on Feb. 9, 2006 by a score of 55-45 in Dayton, OH, and Jan. 16, 2006 marks the last time the Titans defeated the Raiders in Detroit and did so by a score of 68-59.

ABOUT WRIGHT STATE
Wright State is currently tied for fifth in the Horizon League with a 7-8 conference record. The Raiders (11-15) snapped a five-game losing streak in their last outing with a 68-51 win at Youngstown State on Feb. 21. LaShawna Thomas leads WSU with 12.8 points per game, while Ta-myra Davis is averaging a team-best 5.0 rebounds per contest.

GOOD-BYE, FEBRUARY
Since the 1977-78 season, UDM owns a 21-10 overall record in the last game in the month of February. When playing this contest in Detroit, the Titans own a 16-3 mark, which includes a 55-51 victory against UIC on Feb. 28, 2008.

JUST JALESA

Freshman Jalesa Jones led the Titans with 14 points and eight rebounds, all from the defensive end, and also collected a game-high five steals at Cleveland State on Feb. 21.

NEARLY PERFECT

The Titans shot 93 percent (13-of-14) from the free throw line at Cleveland State on Feb. 21. Redshirt freshman Talicia Washington, senior Sandi Brown and junior Chanica Hall all made both of their attempts, while freshman Jalesa Jones missed just one of her eight tries.

DOUBLEHEADER FINALE
Saturday marks the final basketball doubleheader for the Titans as the men's team hosts Milwaukee at 4 p.m., which follows the women's match-up with Wright State. The 28th is technically a tripleheader as UDM's women's lacrosse squad will play in its first-ever home game at 11 a.m. at Titan Field.

WHERE ARE THE TITANS?
As of Feb. 27, senior Sandi Brown is sixth in the league in scoring average (12.8 ppg), while junior Brigid Mulroy is 17th (10.6 ppg). In addition, Brown stands fifth in rebounding (6.8 rpg), seventh in steals (2.2) and fifth in both offensive (2.5) and defensive rebounds (4.2). Mulroy is 10th in 3-point FG percentage (.362) and third in 3-pointers made (2.0), while junior Chanica Hall ranks fourth in assists per game (3.8) and seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.1). In addition, freshman Jalesa Jones is seventh in assists per game (3.0).

LAST TIME OUT
The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team dropped a 60-50 decision to Cleveland State in Horizon League action at the Wolstein Center on Feb. 21.

Junior Chanica Hall scored the Titans first field goal of the afternoon at 16:05 to pull Detroit within one (5-4) and then senior Sandi Brown gave Detroit its first lead about three minutes later (8-7) as she hit a midrange jumper off an assist from freshman Jalesa Jones.

The Vikings responded with a 14-2 run, which included eight points from junior Kailey Klein. Jones followed this with a 5-0 scoring spurt of her own and redshirt freshman Talicia Washington was able to cut Detroit's deficit to four after netting a layup at 1:05. In the closing seconds, Klein drained one of her four treys of the afternoon to put the score at 26-19 at the break.

The first two baskets in the second stanza for the Titans were from long range, coming from Jones and senior Sandi Brown with Brown's bucket pulling Detroit within five (30-25) at the 17:47 mark. Freshman Jaleesa Trussell scored one of her two field goals at 9:03 to also cut CSU's lead to five (40-35), but that was the closest Detroit would get to the Vikings the remainder of the contest.

CSU had the largest lead for either squad with just under three minutes remaining after Klein hit one from beyond the arc to put the score at 59-45. The Titans ended the game on a 5-1 run, which included a 3-pointer from junior Brigid Mulroy and two made free throws from Jones.

Jones netted a personal-best 14 points after shooting 3-of-6 from the field, while Brown added a team second-best 11 points. Jones also led the Titans in rebounds with eight, all on the defensive end, and matched her career-high of five steals, which was also a game-best.

Klein led all scorers with 24 points, while CSU senior Dominique Butler pulled down a game-high 10 caroms.

The Titans shot 33 percent on the afternoon (17-of-51), while CSU had a 23-of0-48 showing from the field (48 percent). The Vikings had a slight 13-12 advantage in steals and CSU also outrebounded Detroit, 34-28.

QUARTER OF A CENTURY PLUS TWO
Senior Sandi Brown led all scorers and tied her career-high of 27 points at Youngstown State on Feb. 19. This marks the highest single point scoring showing from a Detroit player thus far this year and it is the fourth time this season in which a Titan player has scored 20 or more points.

JT MAKES HER MARK
Freshman Jaleesa Trussell came off the bench this past Thursday and battled through to end tied for a game second-best 16 points after shooting 6-of-11 from the field. Trussell made all four attempts at the line and also added a personal-best five rebounds. Trussell saw a season-high 24 minutes of action and also contributed one assist and two steals against the Penguins.

SCOREBOARD READS 70 OR MORE
Detroit has scored 70 or more points five times this season and the Titans have won all of those contests. The most recent, outside of UDM's 70-62 win at Youngstown State (Feb. 19), was a 73-50 victory over the Penguins at Calihan Hall on Jan. 24.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Senior Sandi Brown cracked the top 20 in Detroit's record books earlier this season and with her 27 point showing at Youngstown State, Brown catapulted into the 18th slot, surpassing current UDM assistant coach Carrie Banks (893). Brown is now 18th with 916 career points and is 12 away from tying Cheryl Day (1988-90) who stands in the 17th spot.

“FOUR SCORE...”
Detroit had four players score in double figures against Milwaukee on Feb. 12 in Brigid Mulroy (14), Chanica Hall (13), Talicia Washington (11) and Sandi Brown (10). This marks the third time this season that the Titans have had at least four players in double digit scoring with the first at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 20) and the second against Valparaiso (Jan. 10).

FOUR TIMES OVER
Senior Sandi Brown came off the bench against Milwaukee on Feb. 12 to collect her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

START YOUR ENGINES
One Titan has started all 25 games for Detroit this season in junior Brigid Mulroy, who is averaging a team second-best 10.6 points per game.

ASSISTING OTHERS
Prior to Feb. 6, junior Chanica Hall had collected seven assists on eight occasions, but Hall set a new career-high against Valparaiso as she dished out a game-high eight helpers.

SEASON-HIGHS
As a team, Detroit set a couple season-highs against Valparaiso on Feb. 6 in rebounds (49) and made free throws (25). The previous season-bests were both set at Loyola on Jan. 3 with 47 rebounds and 22 free throws.

STEALING AWAY
Detroit's 13 steals against YSU on Jan. 24 matches its season-high from UDM's 76-75 double overtime victory at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 20).

OVERTIME AT CALIHAN
Detroit's overtime game against Valparaiso on Jan. 10 marked the first time the Titans played an extra session at Calihan Hall since a 74-73 setback against Milwaukee on Jan. 27, 2005.

ANOTHER FIRST
In her first Horizon League game at the helm of the Detroit Titans women's basketball program, head coach Autumn Rademacher notched a 71-64 win at Loyola on Jan. 3.

DOUBLE OR NOTHING
Two Titans registered double-doubles against Loyola on Jan. 3 in redshirt freshman Talicia Washington and senior Sandi Brown. Washington scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Brown pulled down a game-high 11 caroms and poured in 12 points.

TWO EXTRA SESSIONS
Prior to Detroit's 76-75 double-overtime win at Eastern on Dec. 20, 2008, the last time the Titans played in a double overtime contest was a 107-102 setback to Kentucky on Dec. 28, 1983 in Detroit.

PLENTY OF POINTS
The 76 point showing at Eastern Michigan on Dec. 20 marks the most points the Titans have scored in a single game since a 78-65 victory against Wright State in Detroit on Feb. 19, 2004.

VS. RANKED TEAMS
The Detroit Titans made history on Nov. 22 as UDM defeated #23 Georgia by a score of 70-66 at Calihan Hall. This marked the first time since the conference changed its name to the Horizon League (2001-02) in which the Titans defeated a ranked opponent. UDM now owns a 1-11 mark in this category.

GOING BACK IN TIME
Detroit's win over Southeastern Conference member school, Georgia, was the first win against an SEC school since Nov. 23, 1979 when the Titans defeated Louisiana State by a score of 84-76 in Detroit. Prior to Saturday's victory, the Titans had lost 13 straight to SEC schools.

COACHING DEBUT AT HOME
Autumn Rademacher coached her first game for the Titans on UDM's home court against #23 Georgia and Detroit came out on the winning end, 70-66. Since the start of UDM women's basketball (1977-78), Rademacher and the eight full-time head coaches prior, now own a collective 4-5 record in their coaching debut on Detroit's home court.

DETROIT INKS THREE
UDM head coach Autumn Rademacher announced that three student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Titans, beginning with the 2009-10 season. The signees are: Demeisha Fambro (G, 5-9, Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech), Kassandra Hooten (F, 6-0, Moorhead, MN/Moorhead) and Cherridy Thornton (F, 6-1, Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior).

FINAL FOUR IN DETROIT
The University of Detroit Mercy will serve as the host institution for the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Final Four, which will be held on April 4 & 6, 2009 at Ford Field in Detroit, MI.
