March Madness is upon us as the Detroit Titans head into collegiate basketball's “second season” when UDM heads to Cleveland State to take on the Vikings on Tuesday in the first round of the 2009 Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. (EST).
Matt Dery, the “Voice of Titan Basketball”, will have all the action on WDTW-AM 1310. For the fourth year in a row, the Horizon League Network will webcast all regular-season and post-season games. The game can also be viewed with a live stats feed through CSTV's gametracker.
ABOUT CLEVELAND STATE
Winners of eight of its last 10, Cleveland State enters the game as the three seed in the 2009 Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship. The Vikings ended the year at 21-10, 12-6 in the league where they were tied with Wright State. Due to a lengthy tiebreaker scenario, CSU came away with the higher seed based on a better RPI rating.
Senior J'Nathan Bullock, a first team All-Horizon League selection, is third in the conference in scoring at 15.6 points per game as well as third in rebounding at 6.8 a night.
The Viking's also have second-team All-League pick Cedric Jackson. The senior guard leads the conference in assists (5.5) and steals (3.0) to go with 9.9 ppg., and 5.6 rpg.
The Vikings are third in the league in scoring defense allowing just 59.2 points a game, while scoring 66.5 a night.
Gary Waters, the 2008 HL Coach of the Year, is in his third season at the helm of the CSU program, where he owns a 52-44 record. Overall, Waters is in his 13th year as a head coach (223-181) with stops at Kent State and Rutgers along the way.
DETROIT VS. CLEVELAND STATE
The Titans lead the series with a 31-12 mark, but CSU has won the last three meetings, and five of the last six games. UDM is 6-10 all-time in Cleveland, but is 4-1 against the Vikings in conference tournament games.

The 31-13 record against Cleveland State equates to a 70% winning percentage. TITANS IN THE TOURNAMENT
UDM owns two Horizon League tournament titles (1994, 1999), which is tied for third among current conference members. Butler tops the list with five followed by Milwaukee who has three. Along with Detroit, UIC owns a pair of championships, while Green Bay, Loyola and Wright State each have one to their credit.
UDM is 26-26 all-time in conference tournament action, the most victories by any member of the Horizon League, past or present.
