The Detroit Titans women's basketball team was honored at the annual end-of-the-year banquet Wednesday evening at the Detroit Golf Club. UDM ended with a 12-19 overall mark (7-11 HL), which is the best finish for the Titans since the 2003-04 campaign.

"After giving the team a well deserved break, it was nice to see everyone back together to celebrate a season we can be proud of," said head coach Autumn Rademacher. "This year was truly special for me as a first year head coach because of what the Detroit Titan women's basketball team was able to accomplish in such a short period of time."

The team handed out six awards towards the end of the program, with senior Sandi Brown (Toledo, OH/Start) headlining as she was named MVP. Brown played in 30 games for the Titans, was in the starting line-up 23 times and ended the season first among teammates with 12.9 points per game. Brown closed the regular season ranked third in scoring and fifth in rebounding (6.7 rpg) among conference peers. For her efforts during the 2008-09 campaign, Brown was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team to become the 16th Titan in Detroit history to be recognized in this category.

Junior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian), who is the only Titan to have started every game, was named Most Improved. Mulroy scored in double figures on 15 occasions, led the team in scoring eight times and ended with a team second-best 9.8 scoring average.

Senior Zemora Davis (Detroit, MI/Community) earned the 6th Player Award after playing in 30 contests for the Titans. Davis closed out the year fourth among teammates in scoring average (6.5 ppg). Junior Heather Hatter (Howell, MI/Howell) earned the Comeback Award after returning from an ACL injury that happened at the end of last year. Hatter played in 25 games, was in the starting line-up 12 times and ended the season with 2.5 rebounds per contest.

Freshman Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) was tabbed as the Top Newcomer as she played in every single game for the Titans and started all but six of those contests. Jones ended the year with a team second-best 84 assists and averaged 4.5 points per game. Another freshman, Jaleesa Trussell (Racine, WI/Case), earned the Hustle Award. Trussell played in 24 games for the Titans and had one of her best games of the year at Youngstown State (Feb. 19) as she poured in 16 points and collected six field goals.

"I am very proud of the way they were able to finish the season and it is definitely something to build on for the years to come," added Rademacher. "I would like to thank the seniors for their valiant efforts on the floor, their support of the new staff, and for being tremendous leaders and role models to the underclassmen. Their desire to leave their mark at the University of Detroit Mercy was fulfilled and they should leave here knowing that they contributed to what we hope is a new standard of Detroit Titan women's basketball."
