SERIES RECORD
Detroit owns a 39-19 advantage in the overall series with Loyola and UDM is 20-5 when playing in Detroit. The Titans swept the Ramblers this year as UDM opened up the Horizon League slate with a 71-64 win in Chicago on Jan. 3 and the Titans closed out the conference regular season with a 57-49 victory on March 7 at Calihan Hall.
ABOUT LOYOLA
Loyola, which has secured the #9 slot in the Horizon League Championship, heads into Monday's match-up with an 8-20 overall record. The Ramblers have lost their past three outings and the last win for LUC came on Feb. 26 by a score of 70-52 to visiting Youngstown State. Elyse VanBogaert is averaging a team-best 12.3 points per game, as well as 5.6 rebounds per contest.
CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Since the 1988-89 season, Detroit owns an 18-18 overall mark in conference championship games, including a 65-54 setback as the #10 seed at #7 Youngstown State on March 10, 2008. The last time Detroit won a game in the Horizon League Championship was a 59-49 victory as a #7 seed at #2 Milwaukee on March 3, 2005. Three days later, the Titans fell by a score of 76-66 to #3 Wright State.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
Detroit has claimed one conference championship title in school history, which occurred during the 1996-97 campaign. The Titans were a #1 seed and defeated #8 Wright State (86-47), #4 Milwaukee (98-63) and clinched the title with a 63-55 win over #3 Green Bay at the Phoenix Sports Center in Green Bay, WI, on March 9. Head coach Autumn Rademacher was a senior on this squad and was named to the All-MCC First Team and, as well as earning all-tournament honors.
DIDN'T I JUST SEE YOU?
This is the first time since 1996-97 where the Titans closed out the regular season and opened up the conference championship against the same opponent. Detroit hosted Wright State on March 1 and defeated the Raiders by a score of 99-60 at Calihan Hall to end the regular season and #1 UDM then defeated #8 WSU six days later in the quarterfinals (86-47) in Green Bay, WI. The Titans closed out the 2008-09 regular season with a 57-49 victory over visiting Loyola on March 7 and are hosting the Ramblers on March 9 in the first round of the tournament.
HOME SWEET HOME
Detroit is 3-1 all-time when the Titans play a tournament game on its home court, with the last win coming on March 4, 2004 when the Titans were a #3 seed and defeated #6 Loyola by a score of 74-62. The lone loss in Detroit for UDM was an 82-65 setback to #6 Wright State when the whole tournament was played at Calihan Hall and the Titans were the #3 seed.
EIGHT IS GREAT
Since the 1994-95 season, teams seeded eighth in the Horizon League Championship are 3-13 overall in the tournament and those squads are 3-10 in the opening game. This is the first time that Detroit has been the #8 seed in the conference championship.
VS. LOYOLA POSTSEASON
Detroit is 4-2 all-time against Loyola in the conference championship, with the last win coming on March 5, 2007 by a score of 75-68 in Chicago, IL, as a #9 seed and the Ramblers were seeded eighth.
WITTY WHITTAKER
Senior
Dominica Whittaker Netted a career-high eight points after making a personal-best four field goals against Loyola at home on March 5. Whittaker also tied her career-high of one steal and set season-highs of five rebounds and 19 minutes versus the Ramblers.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Senior
Sandi Brown cracked the top 20 in Detroit's record books earlier this season and now stands in 17th with 961 career points. Mary Lillie (1978-82) is in the 16th slot as she finished out her career with 1,033 points.
LAST TIME OUT
In their last regular season game at Calihan Hall, the three Detroit seniors made their mark as they combined for 32 points to help lead the Titans to a 57-49 victory over visiting Loyola in a Horizon League match-up Saturday afternoon. The three seniors honored prior to tip-off for all of their hard work and dedication to the UDM women's basketball program were
Sandi Brown,
Zemora Davis and
Dominica Whittaker.
After Detroit was down by 12 (43-31) at the 12:20 mark, the Titans scored eight unanswered points and Brown, who ended with a team-high 14 points, went on to knot the score at 47 after hitting one from beyond the arc with four minutes left in the contest. Redshirt freshman
Talicia Washington pushed UDM up by one with a made free throw about a minute later and the Titans did not look back as they never relinquished their lead the rest of the way.
After making both of her attempts at the line, Brown made a key steal with 1:23 left in the game, then freshman
Lauren Allen dished out a pass to Washington, who attempted a layup. The ball danced around the rim and ended up falling through to put the Titans up by five (54-49) and Loyola had two turnovers and only one more shot attempt in the closing minute, which helped lead to Detroit's win.
Detroit scored the first six points of the contest, which included a layup from Whittaker, who shot 4-of-6 from the field to finish with a career-high eight points. Loyola did not score until almost four minutes into the game, which was a layup by junior Elyse VanBogaert, who netted a game-high 16 points.
Twice in the first half the Titans led by as much as seven, with the last at 12:36 after freshman
Jalesa Jones drained a 3-pointer off an assist from Davis to put the score at 16-9. Loyola responded with a 13-0 scoring run and the Titans were able to pull within two after Allen hit a midrange jumper, but the Ramblers led by a score of 29-24 at the break.
NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE?
Detroit had a 10-of-19 showing at the charity stripe against the Ramblers on March 7, while Loyola only had one attempt all afternoon (0-of-1).
TWO IN A ROW
The Titans head into Monday's contest on a two-game winning streak, which includes a 63-55 victory over UIC (Mar. 5) and a 57-49 win over Loyola two days later. The last time UDM won two games in a row this year was in December when the Titans defeated Morehead State (60-54) at Calihan Hall on the 17th, which was followed by a 76-75 double overtime victory at Eastern Michigan three days later. The last time UDM won three consecutive games was during the 2005-06 season from Jan. 5-21 when the Titans won five in a row.
QUARTER OF A CENTURY PLUS TWO
Senior
Sandi Brown led all scorers and tied her career-high of 27 points at Youngstown State on Feb. 19. This marks the highest single point scoring showing from a Detroit player thus far this year and it is the fourth time this season in which a Titan player has scored 20 or more points.

Detroit had four players score in double figures against Milwaukee on Feb. 12 in

Sandi Brown (10). This marks the third time this season that the Titans have had at least four players in double digit scoring with the first at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 20) and the second against Valparaiso (Jan. 10).

SEASON-HIGHS
As a team, Detroit set a couple season-highs against Valparaiso on Feb. 6 in rebounds (49) and made free throws (25). The previous season-bests were both set at Loyola on Jan. 3 with 47 rebounds and 22 free throws.
STEALING AWAY
Detroit's 13 steals against YSU on Jan. 24 matches its season-high from UDM's 76-75 double overtime victory at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 20).
ANOTHER FIRST
In her first Horizon League game at the helm of the Detroit Titans women's basketball program, head coach Autumn Rademacher notched a 71-64 win at Loyola on Jan. 3.
TWO EXTRA SESSIONS
Prior to Detroit's 76-75 double-overtime win at Eastern on Dec. 20, 2008, the last time the Titans played in a double overtime contest was a 107-102 setback to Kentucky on Dec. 28, 1983 in Detroit.
VS. RANKED TEAMS
The Detroit Titans made history on Nov. 22 as UDM defeated #23 Georgia by a score of 70-66 at Calihan Hall. This marked the first time since the conference changed its name to the Horizon League (2001-02) in which the Titans defeated a ranked opponent. UDM now owns a 1-11 mark in this category.
GOING BACK IN TIME
Detroit's win over Southeastern Conference member school, Georgia, was the first win against an SEC school since Nov. 23, 1979 when the Titans defeated Louisiana State by a score of 84-76 in Detroit. Prior to Saturday's victory, the Titans had lost 13 straight to SEC schools.
COACHING DEBUT AT HOME
Autumn Rademacher coached her first game for the Titans on UDM's home court against #23 Georgia and Detroit came out on the winning end, 70-66. Since the start of UDM women's basketball (1977-78), Rademacher and the eight full-time head coaches prior, now own a collective 4-5 record in their coaching debut on Detroit's home court.
DETROIT INKS THREE
UDM head coach Autumn Rademacher announced that three student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Titans, beginning with the 2009-10 season. The signees are: Demeisha Fambro (G, 5-9, Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech), Kassandra Hooten (F, 6-0, Moorhead, MN/Moorhead) and Cherridy Thornton (F, 6-1, Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior).
FINAL FOUR IN DETROIT
The University of Detroit Mercy will serve as the host institution for the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Final Four, which will be held on April 4 & 6, 2009 at Ford Field in Detroit, MI.
