Mike Geary has been named as new Detroit Titans assistant women's basketball coach and will join head coach
Autumn Rademacher's staff immediately. UDM athletic director
Keri Gaither made the announcement earlier today.
Geary boasts more than 21years of college coaching experience as both a head coach and assistant coach.
"The UDM women's basketball program has immediately improved with the hiring of long time head coach Mike Geary," Rademacher said. "He has an incredible resume and will bring a wealth of knowledge to our program. Mike specializes in player development, and our team will benefit greatly from his expertise."
Geary spent 17 seasons as head coach at Northern Michigan University, where he led the Wildcats to more than 400 victories during that span. His teams at Northern Michigan made 12 appearances in the NCAA Division II basketball tournament, including two Elite 8 showings and one trip to the D-II Final Four. He was named GLIAC Coach of the Year on two occasions ('89 and '97).
Geary most recently coached for two seasons as an assistant at Ball State from 2005 to 2007. He was part of a Cardinal coaching staff that posted a mark of 41-19 during that time and helped lead BSU to the Women's NIT in 2007.
"We are thrilled to have Mike join our women's basketball staff," said Gaither. "He brings a tremendous amount of experience, he has been part of several winning programs, and I believe he will be an asset to the Titan Athletic family."
The 52-year old Geary is a graduate of Aquinas College. He has two sons, Sean and Tyler. Sean played collegiately at Michigan Tech, while Tyler is currently a member of the men's basketball team at Lake Superior State.
