Titans Add WMU Transfer Lowe To Basketball Roster

Detroit Titans coach Ray McCallum added one more strong building block to his squad today with the announcement that center LaMarcus Lowe has transferred to UDM from Western Michigan.

The 6-11, 200-pound Lowe will sit out the upcoming season under NCAA transfer rules, and become eligible for competition with the Titans beginning with the 2010-11 season.

As a freshman at WMU, Lowe led the Mid-American Conference with 48 blocked shots, three of which came against the Titans when the two teams squared off in Kalamazoo last season. For the year, Lowe played in 28 games, averaging 2.0 points and 3.2 rebounds. He posted individual game highs of eight points and nine rebounds in the same January contest against Toledo. His seven blocks vs. Eastern Michigan tied a school record, and he rejected at least three shots in eight different games.

“Our guys will be happy they don't have to shoot against LaMarcus any more,” coach McCallum said. “He's a proven shot blocker and a good all-around player. He'll get bigger and stronger this year and give us a big boost when it comes time for him to play with us.”

Lowe played his high school basketball at Flint Northwestern, where he averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks as a senior. His cousin, Eddie Robinson, is a former NBA player who saw action with Charlotte and Chicago over his six-year professional career.

In another personnel announcement, coach McCallum revealed that center Jason Bennett would not return to UDM for his senior season and is pursuing other basketball opportunities.

Coach McCallum and his team members are currently going through practice sessions prior to departing on Aug. 19 for a five-game exhibition tour of Spain.
