Finch Joins UDM Staff As Director of Basketball Operations

Detroit Titans coach Ray McCallum completed his 2009-10 staff today with the hiring of Director of Basketball Operations Will Finch.

Finch comes to UDM from Impact Basketball in Las Vegas – where he organized the renowned basketball training center's management and aided in the on-court training of NBA-caliber players – but he's certainly no stranger to coach McCallum. As a college student, Finch served as a men's basketball student manager at Indiana University, where McCallum was on the coaching staff in 2007 and '08 prior to taking over the reins at Detroit.

“Will was an asset to our coaching staff when we were together at Indiana, and it's great to have him on our staff here at Detroit,” coach McCallum said. “He had been the lead manager, he worked with the Indiana administration. I like his versatility. He's like a lot of people we already have here. He can do a little bit of everything.”

Finch spent three seasons (2005-07) as a student manager at Indiana as an undergraduate, and later took on roles in event management and athletics administration while pursuing his masters degree at IU. He received a B.S. in Sports Communication (2007) and an M.S. in Sports Marketing and Management (2008) from IU.

In his new position, Finch will serve as the Titans' video coordinator and organize the film exchange program. He will also coordinate team travel and oversee the team's academics, community service program and student managers.

“I really enjoyed working with 'Coach Mac' those two years at Indiana. He's a great guy and he relates perfectly with people. He has a great basketball mind,” Finch said. “It's exciting to come here to UDM and do what I can to help put Detroit Titans basketball on the right foot for the new season.”

Finch fills out a UDM basketball staff that also includes assistant coaches Carlos Briggs, Jay Smith and Derek Thomas along with graduate assistant manager Mike Faletti. The Titans will soon begin on-court preparations prior to leaving on an 11-day exhibition tour of Spain on Aug. 19.
