Summer vacation is over for the UDM men’s lacrosse team as they returned to campus this week with the start of the new school year. The Titans opened practice on Wednesday and on Thursday, Detroit had its first-ever alumni game as the alumni/returners took on the newcomers on Titan Field.
The alumni/returners donned the red practice mesh jerseys and took an early 4-1 lead in the scrimmage, but the newcomers had a late charge left in them as the rookies won the game, 11-10. The veteran squad welcomed back three of its alumni who exhausted their final year of collegiate eligibility last season for UDM in
Michael Schumacher, Riley Turchetti and current graduate assistant coach
Kevin Demorest.
“We had a lot of fun out there with the old guys back,” said head coach
Matt Holtz. “It was also great for us as a coaching staff to see everyone play and just to know where we stand as we get into fall practice and a month away from our fall scrimmage.”
Detroit has undergone tremendous growth since the announcement was made to add lacrosse as a varsity sport in the summer of 2007, with the latest news that the program was accepted into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for the upcoming season.
