Slow start, fast finish. That was the Detroit men’s golf story Sunday as the Titans steadily worked their way up the leader board to stand third out of 16 teams after two rounds at the 2009 John Dallio Memorial.
The Titans opened the tournament behind the eight ball and finished their first 18 holes with a 305 total. They roared back during the windy afternoon – fueled by senior David Byrne’s six-under-par round of 66 – to post a one-over 291 as a team and moved from fifth place to third at 594. Host DePaul (582) leads the tournament, while Western Illinois (592) is just two shots ahead of Detroit heading into Monday’s final round.
Byrne’s 78-66-144 score card puts him in a fourth-place tie. Fellow Titan Britt Pronk stands seventh individually at 72-74-146.
The Titans will be paired with DePaul and Western Illinois in the final grouping, and they are scheduled to tee off Monday beginning at 8:31 a.m. (CST). Golfstat.com will once again provide live scoring of the event.
