The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team begins its fall schedule on Saturday at St. Bonaventure, as the Titans will play in four 30-minute games there. The four teams UDM will face are St. Francis (PA), Lockhaven, SBU, as well as Bucknell.
"I am excited to play this fall with the addition of the newcomers," said Detroit head coach
Mary Ann Meltzer. "These games will give us a good opportunity to see how we compete against other teams. It is also going to be a great experience to play a national powerhouse like Northwestern next week."
UDM closed out its inaugural season with a 5-9 overall record and advanced to the National Lacrosse Conference Championship game, but fell to Longwood (May 3) on the Lancers campus.
The Titans return eight starters from the 2009 squad, including sophomore
Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson), who ended her first year of collegiate ball with a team-high 57 goals. In addition, sophomore
Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) returns, who ended 2009 with team second-bests in goals (37), points (44) and assists (7), along with sophomore
Brett Yenger (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) who played every minute in net for the Titans in 2009.
The Titans will finish its fall slate at Northwestern, the five-time defending national champion, on Oct. 8 in Chicago at 5:15 p.m.
