Titans' Simon Named HL Co-Player Of The Week

Detroit Titans sophomore guard Chase Simon has been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 17. The HL office made the announcement this afternoon.

Simon shares the award with Green Bay sophomore guard Rahmon Fletcher.

Simon, a transfer from Central Michigan in his first active season with the Titans, averaged 28.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for UDM.  He posted his first double-double with career-highs of 33 points and 12 rebounds in Detroit's 81-65 victory at Milwaukee Thursday. Then, in a narrow 74-72 loss at Green Bay, he tied Fletcher for game-high scoring honors with 24 points.  For the week, Simon shot 59 percent (24-of-41) from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw stripe.

The co-honoree, Fletcher, averaged 21 points and 3.5 assists as Green Bay took over sole possession of second place in the League standings with a pair of two-point victories over Wright State and Detroit.

UDM's Simon is averaging 13.8 points per game for the season. His 33 at Milwaukee are the third-highest by a player in the HL this winter. He is the first Titan to score 20 or more in three consecutive games since Jon Goode did it four straight times in 2007-08.

By virtue of Simon's league honor, he is eligible for the Horizon League Network's “People's Choice” Award, which is announced every Thursday afternoon. Fans can vote at www.horizonleaguenetwork.tv as the polls open Monday afternoon and usually close about 24 hours later.

Simon and the Titans will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when Wright State comes to Calihan Hall (2:05 p.m.). The game will be televised live on FOX Sports Detroit and, at halftime, the 2010 induction class will be inducted into the Titan Sports Hall of Fame.
