Women's Hoops Looks for Third Straight Win

SERIES RECORD
Detroit is 15-21 all-time against Milwaukee, including a 5-13 mark when playing on the Panthers' home court. The series was split last season as UWM won the first meeting by a score of 75-57 in Milwaukee on Jan. 17 and the Titans then captured a 59-50 victory at Calihan Hall on Feb. 12. The last time UDM defeated the Panthers in Wisconsin was on March 3, 2005 when the Titans won by a score of 59-49.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Milwaukee heads into Thursday's match-up with a 6-7 overall record, a 2-3 record at home and a 1-1 mark in Horizon League play. The Panthers opened up its conference slate with a 68-59 win at Youngstown State on Jan. 2 and then dropped a 73-61 decision at Cleveland State two days later. Lindsay Laur leads Milwaukee in both scoring average (13.8 ppg) and rebounding average (8.6 rpg).

NOT THE CITY IN CALIFORNIA
Sophomore Lauren Allen (L.A.) tied her career-high of eight assists for a game-best effort and also tied for a game-high nine rebounds for a new season-high in Detroit's 21-point victory over Wright State on Jan. 3.

“FOUR SCORE & SEVEN YEARS AGO...”(AGAIN)
For the second game in a row, the Titans had four players score in double figures, most recently it was against visiting Wright State (Jan. 3). Senior Brigid Mulroy led the way with 21, while freshman Demeisha Fambro came off the bench to score 13 and sophomores Yar Shayok and Jalesa Jones each added 11 for Detroit in the 68-47 win. Against Colgate (Dec. 30), Jones led the way with 17, while Mulroy scored 15, junior Tayler Langham added 14 and Shayok netted 10 for UDM.

Senior Brigid Mulroy collected a game-high and personal-best four steals versus the Raiders this past Sunday.

OPENING ON A WINNING NOTE
This marks the second straight season in which the Titans have won their Horizon League opener as Detroit defeated Wright State this past Sunday, 68-47, and last year UDM captured a 71-64 victory over Loyola in Chicago on Jan. 3.

ASSISTING TOGETHER
The Titans dished out a season-best 17 assists against Wright State this past Sunday.

STEALING AWAY
The Titans collected 12 steals in each of the past two games, which ties for a season-high in this category.

PERFECTION
Two Titans did not miss at the charity stripe this past Sunday against the Raiders as senior Brigid Mulroy made all five attempts and junior Tayler Langham had a 4-of-4 showing.

SIGNATURE SHOT
Senior Brigid Mulroy can shoot from beyond the arc and that was evident this past week as she totaled nine 3-pointers in two games.

CRACKIN' THE TOP-10
Senior Brigid Mulroy is currently ninth in Detroit's record books with 106 career 3-pointers and is just one away from tying Tia Winters (1997-02) for eighth place.

BEST IN THE NATION
In the latest NCAA National Rankings (thru Jan. 3), senior Brigid Mulroy ranks fourth in 3-point field goal pct. (.528) and 14th in 3-point field goals made (3.2/gm). In addition, as a team, the Titans are 70th in the nation in 3-point field goal pct. (.348).

WHERE IN THE HORIZON LEAGUE?
As of Jan. 4, senior Brigid Mulroy is first among conference peers in 3-point field goal pct. (.528) and 3-point field goals made (3.2/gm). She is also third among conference peers in scoring (15.0 ppg) and fifth in free throw percentage (.867). Sophomore Yar Shayok is currently third in the Horizon League in rebounds (8.9 rpg), is 15th in scoring (11.3 ppg), third in defensive rebounds (6.1/gm) and is sixth in offensive rebounds (2.8/gm). In addition, sophomore Jalesa Jones is tied for first in assists (5.0 apg) and fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.6), while freshman Demeisha Fambro is 18th in scoring (10.3 ppg).

REBOUNDS GALORE
Sophomore Yar Shayok has grabbed double figure rebounds in every game, except for five. She set a career-high of 14 at Oakland (Nov. 13), grabbed 10 against both Michigan State (Nov. 15) and Cincinnati (Nov. 21), pulled down a game-high 12 caroms at Indiana State (Dec. 1), collected a game-best 13 rebounds against EMU (Dec. 5), pulled down a team-high 11 versus U-M (Dec. 19) and tallied a game-high 10 against Colgate (Dec. 30).

HALF AND HALF
Junior Tayler Langham shot 50 percent from the field (6-of-12) to end with a game third-best 14 points against Colgate on Dec. 30. In addition, Langham added five rebounds, one assist and one steal in 31 minutes of play.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Sophomore Yar Shayok collected her fourth double-double of the season as she scored a game fourth-best 10 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds against visiting Colgate on Dec. 30.

THAT'S DY-NO-MITE!
Sophomore Jalesa Jones (JJ) led all scorers with a career-high 17 points after making a personal-best five field goals against Colgate on Dec. 30. Jones shot 70 percent from the line (7-of-10) and dished out a game second-best five assists versus the Raiders.

SPAUDE'S DEBUT

Sophomore Sierra Spaude played her first game in a Titan uniform on Dec. 13 at Morehead State. In 22 minutes of play, Spaude drained one from long range, pulled down four rebounds and added two assists for the Titans.

DOUBLIN' UP
Detroit had five players score in double figures at Morehead State on Dec. 13. Sophomore Jalesa Jones and freshman Demeisha Fambro tied for a team-high 15 points, while freshman Kassandra Hooten scored 14. Sophomore Yar Shayok and senior Brigid Mulroy added 12 and 10, respectively.

HORTEN CLEARLY HEARS A 'WHO'
Freshman Kassandra Hooten started ended with a team third-best and personal-high 14 points for her second consecutive game scoring in double figures on Dec. 13 at Morehead State. Against Bowling Green (Dec. 9), she came off the bench to score a team-high and then personal-best 12 points after shooting 4-of-11 from the field and making her lone attempt from long range.

FAMBRO LEADS THE WAY
Freshman Demeisha Fambro poured in a game-high 22 points, which included a perfect 5-of-5 showing at the line, against Eastern Michigan (Dec. 5). Fambro was one rebound shy of collecting a double-double as she grabbed a team third-best nine boards and she also tallied a game-high four steals against the Eagles.

BOARD WORK, NOT BRIDGE WORK
Senior Brigid Mulroy pulled down a career-high and game second-best 12 rebounds against Eastern Michigan on Dec. 5.

LONE SENIOR HONORED
Detroit's lone senior, Brigid Mulroy, came out of the gate raring to go in UDM's opening week as she averaged 20.5 points in the two games. For her efforts, Mulroy was named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Nov. 16 and also earned the Horizon League Network's “The People's Choice” honor (Nov. 19).

MORE MULROY
Mulroy opened the 2009-10 campaign with a team third-best 14-point effort in Detroit's 74-65 win at Oakland on Nov. 13 and, two days later, in UDM's home opener, she shot 8-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-5 from long range, and made all seven attempts at the line to end with a career-high and game-best 27 points versus #10 Michigan State. The eight made field goals matches her career-high and the seven free throws is a new personal best for Detroit's lone senior.

NOT TOO SHABBY
Detroit led by as much as nine against #10 Michigan State on Nov. 15 and the Titans had a one-point advantage at the break (37-36).

DOUBLE OR NOTHING

Sophomore Yar Shayok, whose 2008-09 season was cut short due to an injury, made a huge impact for the Titans against Oakland on Nov. 13 as she collected a double-double with game-highs in both points and rebounds with 26 and 14, respectively.

TALE OF TWO HALVES
The Titans shot 36 percent in the first half against Oakland (Nov. 13) and came back from the break to shoot 61 percent in the second stanza, compared to a 29 percent effort from the Golden Grizzlies.

BIG TEN TEAMS TO CALIHAN
Michigan was the second Big Ten team to visit Calihan Hall this year as Detroit opened up its home slate with a match-up against Michigan State on Nov. 15 and faced off with the Wolverines on Dec. 19. The last time UDM hosted both of these teams was during the 2001-02 season.

LAST TIME OUT
In both teams' first Horizon League contest of the 2009-10 campaign, Detroit had four players score in double figures for the second straight game to help capture a 68-47 victory over visiting Wright State on Jan. 3.

Detroit senior Brigid Mulroy led all scorers as she netted 21 points after shooting 6-of-14 from the field, which included four from beyond the arc and all five attempts at the line. This is the fourth time this season in which Mulroy has scored 20 or more points.

Freshman Demeisha Fambro came off the bench to score a team second-best 13, while sophomores Yar Shayok and Jalesa Jones each added 11 points for the Titans. Sophomore Lauren Allen grabbed a season-high nine rebounds, which tied for a game-best.

Detroit maintained control of the game virtually all afternoon as the Titans only relinquished its lead for a brief period in the middle of the first half. With UDM down, 23-20, Mulroy responded with a 3-pointer for the only tie of the contest.

The Titans then went on to score 11 unanswered points, nine of which came from Fambro, for its largest lead of the stanza with just over four minutes remaining. Fambro then hit a midrange jumper in the closing minute to give Detroit a 37-28 advantage at the break.

UDM came right out of the gate on a 6-0 scoring run in the second half, which was capped off with a trey from Mulroy to put the score at 43-28. Detroit stretched its lead to 20, twice, with the second coming after Mulroy made her second attempt at the line (3:28) to put the score at 64-44 and Fambro gave Detroit its largest lead of the contest of 24 with 30 seconds remaining as she hit a jumper to put the score at 68-44.
Sophomore Molly Fox poured in a team-high 16 points for the Raiders, while junior Tanni Scott tied for a game-best nine rebounds.

Detroit shot a solid 46 percent from the field and 74 percent from the line, while Wright State, had a 19-of-54 showing from the field and UDM dished out 17 assists to the Raiders' nine.

HORIZON LEAGUE NETWORK
All of Detroit's home games and every road conference contest for the Titans will be televised on the Horizon League Network this year.

DETROIT INKS TWO
University of Detroit Mercy head women's basketball coach Autumn Rademacher has announced that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Titan squad, beginning with the 2010-11 season. The signees are: Megan Hatter (F, 6-0, Howell, MI/Howell) and Senee Shearer (G, 5-7, Detroit, MI/Pershing). Hatter is the sister of current Titan, Heather Hatter.
