Horizon League Preseason Basketball Polls Released This Week

INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League will be releasing its 2010-11 Preseason Men's and Women's Basketball polls live on the Internet Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at 2:00 p.m. on the conference's website at horizonleague.com.  The league's sports information directors, coaches and media members will predict the standings of the upcoming season and will give their choices for Preseason All-League Teams.

Both Titan squads are poised for solid campaigns, coming off seasons of marked improvement a year ago.  The UDM women used a strong second-half charge—going 15-5 after the new year—to finish 17-14 overall and a tie for second place in the HL.  Head Coach Autumn Rademacher, who was the Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2010, begins her third season at the helm.   She welcomes back the conference's Newcomer of the Year in Yar Shayok, the HL's leading rebounder at 9.7 per game.  She joins returning starters Lauren Allen, Jalesa Jones and Sierra Spaude to form a group that eyes its second-ever NCAA tournament appearance.

The Titan men posted the nation's fourth-best turnaround last year, winning 13 more games for a 20-14 record.  UDM returns both its leading scorer—Chase Simon at 14.0 points per game—and rebounder, Eli Holman, who grabbed a league-best 8.9 boards per contest.  Ray McCallum, a highly-decorated incoming freshman, will join his father, Head Coach Ray McCallum as Detroit sets its sights on a run at another league championship and its sixth NCAA postseason appearance.

Viewers are encouraged to watch the release of the polls live at horizonleague.com beginning at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday for the men with the women's show airing a day later at the same time.
