Head Coach Autumn Rademacher Interview On Titan YouTube
DETROIT -- The Detroit women's basketball team has hit the court hard the past few weeks as the Titans continue to train for the 2010-11 season.
With UDM's first exhibition game just 10 days away (Monday, Nov. 8 vs. Saginaw Valley) and the start of the season not far behind (Friday, Nov. 12 vs. Oakland), the Titans know that now is the time to make sure everyone is on the same page and for head coach
Autumn Rademacher, practice is about effort.
“I really look for a lot of fire. I want to see a lot of intensity, a lot of energy and just that they are actually having fun out there. When they are flat and they are dead and I am begging them to have a little energy, and I am constantly saying 'It's too quiet in here', that is what I gauge as being a low-level practice for us. When people are getting intense and competitive and jawing at each other a little, it is because they care, they want to win, and we like to bring that aggression out as much as we can. I rather have to tone it down then to keep continually have to bring it up every single day.”
A Few Observations From The Last Week Of Women's Practice:
1 – Passing is a key to any offense, but with a team that plans to run, the Titans have focused a lot on finding the right player in transition and making crisp passes in practice.
2 – They may not be able to play this season due to NCAA transfer rules, but
Britney Murphy and
Chanahl Putnam will have a huge role on the team. Both are talented players who practice hard and will get Detroit ready for the tough non-conference schedule as well as the Horizon League.
3 –
Yar Shayok looks to be in great shape and should challenge the top spot as one of the Horizon League's best post players.
4 – Looking for a player to have a breakout season, how about
Demeisha Fambro. So far in practice, she has demonstrated an all-around game from running the floor and getting to the basket, to making the right pass and getting a teammate in position to score and pulling up to hit from the outside. She is one of the hardest workers on the team and that could pay off in a big way for the Titans.
