DETROIT -- Five players reached double-digit scoring figures to lead host Detroit to an 82-60 win over Hillsdale in exhibition action at Calihan Hall Saturday afternoon.
Donavan Foster connected on all six of his shots from the floor, including a pair of threes, while
Eli Holman etched a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards for the Titans. Hillsdale's Brad Guinane led all scorers with 27 points.
Detroit led nearly throughout, using a 9-0 run early in the proceedings to take an 11-2 advantage. In that opening two-and-a-half minutes, Detroit made its first four shots, meanwhile holding the Chargers without a field goal and forcing three turnovers.
The lead would stretch to as many as 11 in the opening stanza before Hillsdale closed the half with five points in the closing seconds for a 35-29 score at the break. UDM held the Chargers to just 3-of-16 shooting from outside in the first 20 minutes with Guinane making all three from distance.
With the score 41-31 Detroit, the Titans rattled-off nine straight points, the final two in the run coming on a nice fastbreak layup by Foster. Guinane did all he could to keep Hillsdale in the contest, recording triples on three straight possessions to close the gap to nine.
All told, Guinane hit 6-of-9 from three-point range, but it was the Chargers' effort on the offensive glass that helped the game remain close. The smaller Charger squad grabbed 16 boards on the offensive end, but Detroit held the visitors to only 30.8 percent shooting from the floor and forced them into 18 turnovers.
All 11 dressed Titans saw action with ten finding the scoresheet. Holman led the way with 16 while a trio of Titans had 14:
Nick Minnerath,
Ray McCallum and Foster.
Chase Simon hit his first three shots in the first half and ended with 10 points.
The Titans have one exhibition left on the schedule as they host Lake Superior State next Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Calihan Hall.
