SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
UDM welcomes Indiana Tech to Calihan Hall Friday night, the home opener for the Titans.  The Warriors compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference at the NAIA level.  Indiana Tech sports a 5-2 record thus far with a 3-0 road record.  Former Titan Lamar Lee transferred to Indiana Tech following last season but has yet to see game action.

30 FOR 30
Detroit opened the season by playing back-to-back games against schools that won 30 games last season in New Mexico and Syracuse.  Both squads racked-up 30-5 records a season ago.

QUITE A STRETCH
Detroit will have three of its first four games away from Calihan Hall and all against very formidable opponents.  The Titans opened at New Mexico, a No. 3 seed in last season's NCAA tourney and a 30-win team.  They then traveled back across the country to Syracuse, for a showdown with the 10th-ranked Orange.  After Friday's home opener, UDM heads to Mississippi State on Nov. 22.

OLD ELI-ABLE
Junior Eli Holman has posted double-doubles in each contest this season.  After opening at New Mexico with game highs in points (15) and rebounds (13), he also tallied a double-double at Syracuse with 17 points and 10 boards.  He now has a dozen double-double performances in his 33 career games as a Titan.

CHASE-OFF THE DEMONS
Junior Chase Simon successfully shrugged-off a sluggish start by connecting on five field goals at Syracuse Tuesday.  His 11-point performance came after an 0-for-10 shooting night at New Mexico, a night that saw both teams combine to shoot 7-for-42 from three-point land.

TITANS TO HONOR RASHAD PHILLIPS
Rashad Phillips, University of Detroit Mercy's all-time leading scorer, will be honored prior to the opening tip Friday.  The hometown standout will have his jersey adorned in the Calihan Hall rafters, joining other Titan greats such as Bob Calihan, Dave DeBusschere, John Long and Terry Tyler.

Phillips was a three-year starter for a resurgent Titan squad that went 95-36 in his four seasons on campus.  That record included two NCAA tournament appearances and an NIT Final Four berth in his senior campaign.  NCAA tournament wins over St. John's (1998) and UCLA (1999) were the highlights of a career that was accentuated with a Midwest Collegiate Conference tournament title in 1999.

The 5-foot-10 Phillips racked-up an impressive 2,319 points in a UDM uniform, just the second Titan player to eclipse the 2,000-point plateau.  He is the school's career leader in points, three-pointers (348) and free throws (541) and is second in steals (190).  He was a two-time League Player of the Year (2000, 01) and received the 2001 Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as the leading player in the nation standing six-feet-tall and under.

The pregame festivities will feature a pre-game ceremony to honor Phillips' accomplishments, both on the hardwood and in the community.  His jersey will be honored by being hung from the rafters in Calihan Hall and he will officially pass the No. 3 to current team member freshman Ray McCallum during the ceremony.  Another pre-game highlight will be WXYZ's Tom Leyden performing the National Anthem.
