Holman Named Horizon League Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit junior center Eli Holman has been named Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for the week beginning Nov. 22.  The accolades come after the big man led the Titans to three wins at the Legends Classic, hosted by UDM Friday through Sunday at Calihan Hall.

Holman averaged a double-double for the week, recording 14.0 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game as Detroit captured the subregional championship of the Legends Classic.  In all three classic games, Holman posted double-doubles, leading the Titans to wins over Albany, Bowling Green and Niagara.  He was named the Most Valuable Player of the subregional in recording his third, fourth and fifth double-doubles of the young season.

Beginning the week in Starkville, Miss., Holman grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in an 82-76 loss to Mississippi State on Monday.  The junior then went on his double-double binge in an 84-82 double overtime win over Albany Friday.  UDM would need every bit of his career-high 27 points to grab the win and the junior snared 15 rebounds in the process.

On Saturday, Holman had 13 points and 14 rebounds to help Detroit down Bowling Green, 71-62.  Holman capped his performance with his third straight double-double, tallying 11 points and 10 boards in 19 minutes of action in a 96-77 rout of Niagara on Sunday.

Detroit will take on Mid-American Conference foe Akron on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. ET before opening Horizon League play on Saturday, Dec. 4 when they host Wright State.  Tip-off from Calihan Hall is slated for 12 p.m. ET, and both games can be seen live on HorizonLeague.com.  Saturday's contest will be aired live on FOX Sports Detroit with "Detroit Titan Court Report" airing pregame at 11:30 a.m.
