DETROIT -- Looking to make it two straight on the road, the Detroit women's basketball team will once again cross state lines as the Titans play at IPFW on Saturday in a special 11:00 a.m., start.
Titan fans can follow the team with a free live stats feed or you can pay to view the game on a live webstream. Both links are available on top of the page.
The time is one of the earliest starts for a game in Titan history, matching an 11:00 a.m., tip-off at Loyola on Jan. 18, 1987.
Detroit is coming off an impressive 62-60 comeback victory at Eastern Michigan, where the Titans were behind by 12, 57-45, with six minutes left before ending the game on a 17-3 run. UDM features a balanced offensive attack with four players averaging between 8 and 12 points per game. The Titans have had five players lead the team in scoring this season, with junior
Lauren Allen taking the honor after her 14-point, six-assist performance against the Eagles.
DETROIT VS. IPFW
The Titans will try to stay flawless against IPFW as Detroit has won all five meetings, including three times in Fort Wayne.
The series is relatively young as both programs met for the first time during the 2001-02 campaign. The last time the Titans tamed the Mastodons was on Jan. 9, 2008, when Detroit claimed a 74-58 victory.
ABOUT THE MASTODONS
IPFW is 5-3 on the year having won two in a row, including a 73-65 decision over Valparaiso on Wednesday. The win was the second on the year for IPFW over a Horizon League school as it defeated Youngstown State earlier in the year.
One other common opponent the Titans and Mastodons share was Michigan State as the Spartans took that game, 90-62.
The Mastodons are averaging 73.2 points per game and have three players in double figures, led by junior Stephanie Rosado's 19.3 ppg. The 6-2 forward is also pulling down 8.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game.
Sophomore Kayla Drake is tallying 11.6 ppg., while junior Anne Boese is third on the team with 10.8 ppg.
DID YOU KNOW?
Speaking of weird game times, did you know that Detroit played at Green Bay with an 11:00 p.m., game time, (midnight for those back in the Motor City) on Feb. 23, 1996, in a contest that was nationally televised on ESPN2.
If you don't believe it, ask head coach Autumn Rademacher as she played in that game. With first place at stake in the MCC in the season finale, Rademacher scored 15 points, but the Titans fell to the Phoenix, 71-53.
AGAINST THE SUMMIT
Detroit has played two teams currently in the Summit League in its history and has posted a 16-6 record versus those clubs.
Detroit is 10-6 against Oakland, including a win in the season opener, as well as 5-0 against IPFW.
QUITE A COMEBACK
The Titans 62-60 victory over Eastern Michigan this past Wednesday turned out to be one of the biggest comebacks in school history.
Down by 12 (57-45) with six minutes left, Detroit ended the game on a 17-3 run to pull out the win.
The last time the Titans pulled out a victory when they were behind by double digits in the second half was on Jan. 11, 2007 as UDM trailed at Cleveland State, 40-30, with 16 minutes to go before securing a 64-61 win.
IN CASE YOU ARE WONDERING
While research has not been fully completed, the biggest comeback for the Titans in school history is currently listed as a 15-point turnaround against Southwest Texas (now known as Texas State) on Dec. 22, 1997.
In that contest, Detroit trailed by 15 at the half, 36-21, but came back to win, 56-53.
DIXON HEATING UP
After scoring a total of 17 points in the first six games of the year (2.8 ppg), sophomore
Dominique Dixon has started to heat up tallying career-highs in back-to-back games.
She started her scoring spurt by tying her previous career best with 11 points at Tulane and surpassed that her last time out against Eastern Michigan with 13 markers.
She is also starting to hit from the outside connecting on three 3-pointers in the last two games after not hitting one in the first six.
PASSING RIGHT BY YOU
Junior
Jalesa Jones put herself in the Detroit record books last season as she totaled 159 assists, the fourth-most in a single season.
She already has an eight-assist performance on the season, against Western Michigan, and now has 277 career assists.
She is just nine helpers away from tying Pat Neely (1983-86) for 10th all-time in the Titan record book.
