McCallum Grabs Horizon League's Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS-  Detroit freshman Ray McCallum has been named the Horizon League's Men's Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.  The first-year phenom averaged 25 points per game and registered a league-best 31 points in Detroit's first road win of the season on Saturday.

McCallum made a career-high four triples (on five attempts) in Wednesday's slim 71-69 loss at Western Michigan.  He added four boards and two steals as the Titans fell at the buzzer.

On Saturday, McCallum made sure that Detroit closed the deal.  The Detroit Country Day product recorded career highs with 31 points, eight rebounds and four steals to lift the Titans over Eastern Michigan, 68-65 in overtime.  McCallum scored nine of those points in the extra session alone and had three rebounds in overtime helping UDM break a four-game road losing streak.

The younger McCallum leads Detroit in scoring with a 14.6 average as well as assists (3.7) and steals (2.0) per game.

McCallum will play against his life-long friend and fellow freshman sensation Trey Zeigler when Central Michigan hosts Detroit and a national audience this Saturday.  The game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. tip on ESPNU.
