UDM's Simon Named HL Player Of The Week

Detroit Titans sophomore guard Chase Simon has been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 31. The honor is Simon's second in the last three weeks.

In his first season with the Titans after transferring from Central Michigan, Simon averaged 25 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the Titans defeated Loyola (83-63) and UIC (76-73) to move into a tie for second place in the Horizon League standings with Wright State. He shot 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field and was 11-for-12 at the free throw line in the two victories combined. He posted his second 30-point game of the season with 30 against Loyola on Thursday, and then tallied his second double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds vs. UIC two days later.

For the season, Simon averages 14.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He ranks second in League-games only with 17.2 points per contest. In the Titans' last six contests, Simon has averaged 24.2 points per game while shooting 50 percent from field and 84 percent from the line.

Tied with Wright State for second place in the current Horizon League standings, Detroit (14-8, 7-4 Horizon League) will play at 18th-ranked Butler (18-4, 11-0) Thursday night with a chance to close the gap on the league-leading Bulldogs. The 7:00 p.m. game will be televised live on FOX Sports Detroit.

The Titans' 14 victories this season already are as many as they had the last two years combined.
