First Round Scoring
Back on the course after a day and a half of rain, the Titan men's golfers stand fifth – but just six shots out of the lead – after the first round of the Mission Inn Spring Fling.
The tournament is being hosted by St. John's at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.
The Titans posted an opening tally of 307 on a windy Saturday to stay in contention in the event that would have started on Friday if not for the elements. Florida Gulf Coast leads at 301, while Stetson (302), Appalachian State (304) and St. Leo (305) are all bunched with UDM in a group dominated by southern teams.
Junior Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Barrie) led the way for Detroit with a solid round of 72 on Saturday. That has him tied for the tournament lead with Jacob Eggers of Appalachian State and Mike Hart of Florida Gulf Coast. The trio holds a three-shot edge over their closest competitors heading into Sunday's final round. Junior Britt Pronk (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas) was next in line for Detroit after carding an opening 77.
