Six Detroit Titans were among a total of 74 student-athletes from six sports honored today as members of the Horizon League's Winter Academic All-League Team.
Balloting was conducted by the League's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors from among 139 nominations.
Detroit's honorees included basketball guard Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian) and track and field athletes Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin), Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/Grosse Pointe North), Kristie Ferrans (Carleton, MI/Monroe), Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA/Burrell) and Ashley Schinske (Paw Paw, MI/Paw Paw). The Titans do not sponsor swimming and diving, whose student-athletes were also honored by the league.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
