Official MAAC Release
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference released its 2009-10 Academic Honor Roll today and six Titan men's lacrosse players met the requirements for the league-wide accolade. In all, over 1,000 students-athletes were honored with Detroit eligible for only lacrosse as an associate member of the conference.
All six Detroit student-athletes just ended their sophomore season and also earned a place on the Academic All-MAAC team, released earlier in the spring.
Leading the way was
Ty Maruyama (Lakewood, CO/Green Mountain) with a 3.71 GPA in biology.
Nick Hoye (Royal Oak, MI/Royal Oak) posted a 3.66 GPA in criminal justice, while
Brad Janer (Novi, MI/Detroit Catholic Central) earned a 3.62 as an engineering major.
John Nowicki (Clinton Twp., MI/De La Salle Collegiate) holds a 3.56 in education, while
Adam Parrottino's (Troy, MI/De La Salle Collegiate) 3.45 and
Danny Preston's (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) 3.21 in finance and education, respectively, round out the red, white and blue honorees.
To be eligible for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, an athlete must hold a grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale and be in his or her second year of athletic eligibility. The Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members of the MAAC with athletes represented in all 24 sports that the conference sponsors.
