Two Titan golfers made their mark Friday when the Toronto Star Amateur drew to a close, as David Byrne (Essex, ON/Essex) posted a sixth-place finish and Britt Pronk (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas) registered the low score of the final round.
Byrne – the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year and a 2010 UDM graduate – posted a 71-75-70-70-286 card, and his 2-under total left him just six shots off the winning pace at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club.
Like Byrne a member of the 2010 All-Horizon League Team, Pronk closed with a sizzling 6-under 66, and missed out on a Top 10 finish by just two stokes with his 70-75-79-66-290 tally.
Byrne, Pronk and the latter's UDM senior classmate Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, On/Bear Creek) will now all turn their attention to the upcoming Canadian Men's Amateur Championship. That tournament will be staged in Pronk's hometown at the London Hunt Club, Aug. 10-15. Each of the three Titans qualified for their national amateur championship by virtue of their Top 25 finishes at the recent Ontario Am.
