UDM golfer Lindsay Lammers' (Milan, MI/Milan) stunning run at the 94th Michigan Women's Amateur Championship finally ended on Friday morning when she was ousted from the tournament in the semi-finals.
An incoming Titan freshman and seeded 18th in the field, Lammers dropped a 1-up decision to Michigan State junior Natalie Brehm on Friday morning at St. Clair River Country Club. It concluded a wonderful string of six match victories in a row that began with her championship at the Michigan Junior Girls' Amateur earlier this month and included three more this week.
Lammers – who won the Michigan Junior Girls' Amateur earlier this month – grabbed an early lead in Friday's match before falling behind on the sixth hole. She was never able to regain her advantage against the third-seeded Brehm, the 2009 Women's Am runner-up, despite a valiant try in what turned out to be a see-saw back nine.
Brehm went up by two after winning the 11th hole, but Lammers responded on 12 to once again cut her deficit to one. Brehm turned around to claim 13 and re-establish her lead at 2-up but Lammers answered with a win on 14 and another on 16 to square the match. Brehm finally claimed the match by winning 18th hole.
