Holman Unavailable for Butler Game

DETROIT-- Horizon League officials confirmed Monday that both UIC's Brad Birton and Detroit's Eli Holman will serve mandatory one-game suspensions following their ejections in Saturday's 72-69 Titan win at the UIC Pavilion.  Birton will be unavailable for UIC's upcoming game at Milwaukee Thursday while Holman will have to sit during Friday's game vs. Butler.

The dual ejections happened at the 5:19 mark of the first half as both players were battling for position on the Detroit offensive end.  According to Mike Conlin, Coordinator of Men's Basketball Officials, both players will be ineligible for their next game per NCAA Rule 10, Fouls and Penalties Section 7, Article 2.

According to Article 2, individuals involved in this type of incident, which by NCAA definition is deemed a fight, shall be suspended from participating in the team's next regular-season game (not an exhibition contest), including tournament competition.

"I'd like to take an opportunity to publicly apologize to Brad Birton, UIC and my teammates and fans," Eli Holman said.  "Our intensity spilled over on the court, but we talked and shook each other's hand immediately following in the tunnel after the ejection.  I'm happy that my team pulled out a tough road win in the Horizon League and I'm focused on helping lead the Titans to a league title this season."

Detroit (10-7, 4-1 HL) hosts Butler Friday at Calihan Hall.  Tip time is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. on ESPNU.
