Final Match Results

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The women's tennis team kicked off its 2011 dual season at Michigan State earlier today.

The Titans fell by a 7-0 margin as two Titans were able to push their singles' matches to a third and deciding set. Freshman Elena Strakhova (Penza, Russia/#216 "Didakt") was in the No. 3 spot and went head-to-head with senior Whitney Wilson of Michigan State winning the opening set 6-4. Wilson then came back 6-2 and 10-1 to take the win.

Titan senior Erin Weldon (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan) matched up against Jennifer Yen from the Spartans as Weldon, like Strakhova, also won her first set. Yen would prevail as she won 6-3 and a back-and-forth final set 11-9.

Detroit moves to 0-1 on the dual season and will prepare for its next contest at Eastern Michigan this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Following that match, the Titans will open up the home portion of the schedule on Sunday at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, MI where they will host IPFW.
