Final Match Results

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Detroit Titans hosted IPFW at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, MI earlier this evening in the first home contest for the women of the 2011 dual season.

The Titans started off the night with a sweep of the doubles portion of the contest as freshman duo of Elena Strakhova (Penza, Russia/#216 "Didakt") and Raina Halabi (Beamsville, ON/Niagara Academy of Tennis) won their match 8-5 as the No. 3 pairing.

Senior Erin Weldon (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan) and freshman Julia Fernandes (Mississauga, ON/John Fraser) followed that with a 9-7 victory in the No. 2 spot while junior Amanda Cornwell (Waterford, MI/Kettering ) and sophomore Carolina Salas Espinosa (Monterrey, Mexico/Preparatoria No. 7) won 9-8 (10-3 in a tiebreaker) to help the Titans take the point.

The Mastodons (4-1) swept the singles portion of the event 6-0 and kept Detroit off the board. Three Titans pushed their matches to a third and final set as Strakhova, Weldon, and Fernandes all went the distance but each fell in the final set.

The final score was 6-1 IPFW as Detroit moves to 0-3 on the dual season.

The next match for the Titans will be this Friday at Western Michigan with time set for 6:00 p.m.
