Day One Results
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The men's tennis team participated in the first day of its second fall tournament earlier Friday at Michigan State as the Stan Drobac Invite saw men's doubles teams play four other schools in head-to-head match-ups. Freshman
Jay Joshi led the Titans with a 2-1 record on the day and senior
David Stabley paired with him for two of those victories accumulating a 2-0 mark on the opening day.
The first match of the day had the Titans against Xavier. In that contest, junior's
Alex Latosinsky and
Mike Basha paired together while two more juniors in
Cesar Escobar Serrano and
Pablo Nunez made up the second Detroit group. A third Titan combination consisted of senior
David Streeter and junior
Chris Cheung while the final team was Joshi and senior
Nick Tolomei. Streeter and Cheung came out with the lone win in the first match posting an 8-5 score. Latosinsky/Basha and Serrano/Nunez both fell by 8-5 margins and Joshi/Tolomei fell 8-3.
In the second doubles match-up of the day, Detroit faced the host team Michigan State. The first three Titan pairings stayed the same and all fell against the difficult Spartan groupings. Joshi teamed up with Stabley in this round and the duo produced a victory in a tiebreaker with a 9-8 (4) score.
In the last match of the day, Detroit went up against Horizon League rival Cleveland State and captured three out of four wins. Latosinsky/Basha won 9-8 (5) while Serrano/Nunez walked away with a 9-8 (4) victory. The final win over the Vikings came from the Stabley/Joshi duo with an 8-4 defeat. With the two wins on the day, Joshi now has a fall record of 5-2 in doubles play.
Detroit will continue play at Michigan State tomorrow and scores will be posted as they become available.
