COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The men's tennis squad headed to Columbus, OH and participated in the first day of qualifying at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Tournament hosted by Ohio State. After two singles victories on Thursday, junior
Alex Latosinsky advanced to the third round of qualifying Friday morning.
Latosinsky faced Jacob Wilson of Illinois State in his first round match-up and advanced with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory. He then went on to play Mathias Hambach of DePaul, who was seeded at No. 6 in the qualifier bracket, and scored a straight set 6-2, 7-5 defeat.
Latosinsky advances to the third and final round of qualifying Friday morning and will go head-to-head with Will Davis of Michigan State for a spot in the main draw of the singles tournament.
There are three rounds in the singles qualifier with the first two rounds completed Thursday. The qualifiers will wrap up Friday morning and then the singles main draw will begin later in the afternoon. The first round of doubles play will also kickoff Friday afternoon.
Six Titans were in action overall on the first day of the tournament.

Cesar Escobar Serrano,
Mike Basha and
Nick Tolomei all competed in the opening day needing wins in each of the three rounds to advance.
Basha was the only other Titan to advance to the second round as he defeated Jay Jones of Cleveland State with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) mark in his first match. He then faced Craig Cox of Green Bay in the second round and fell in a three set match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
