College Sports Madness Preseason All-Horizon League
DETROIT -- The college basketball season is rapidly approaching and publications are already busy turning out preseason honors as junior
Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) was tabbed to the Preseason All-Horizon League first team by College Sports Madness.com.
Shayok is coming off a sophomore campaign where she led the Horizon League - and was 27th in the nation - in rebounding at 10.2 per game. She pulled down double-digit rebounds in 17 games en route to becoming just the fifth Titan in school history to average double-digit rebounds in a season. She finished the year with 10 double-doubles, while averaging 9.3 ppg., and topping the team in field-goal percentage (.445).
She was named to the Horizon League's All-Defensive team last season after leading the Titans in both steals (46) and blocks (32). It was the second time in as many years she took home a conference accolade as she was selected the League's Newcomer of the Year in 2010.
Shayok was joined on the first team by Cleveland State's Shalonda Winton, Julie Wojta of Green Bay, UIC's Jasmine Bailey and Youngstown State's Brandi Brown. The second team was comprised of Destinee Blue of Cleveland State, Green Bay's Sarah Eichler, Loyola's Monica Albano, Sami Tucker of Milwaukee and Wright State's Molly Fox.
Detroit will kick off the 2011-12 season in grand fashion this Friday with the Titan Tip-Off event. Doors open at 5:30 for a night of fun-filled basketball activities. For more information on the Tip-Off,
