DETROIT -- The Detroit women's basketball team did more than just fall season work outs last Friday as the Titans volunteered their time at a local homeless shelter visiting the Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS) in Detroit.
The Titans arrived and assisted the regular workers in preparation of food and setting up the room for dining services. They then prepared plates and served the people who entered the shelter as well as assisted in cleaning up the kitchen and dining areas.
“It was definitely a great experience for us to go there and give back,” said senior guard
Lauren Allen. “It is always great to give back to the community and it makes you appreciate what we have and that we get to go to school and play basketball.”
COTS' mission is to alleviate homelessness by providing shelter, meals and an array of services which enable people to achieve economic self-sufficiency and decent affordable housing. COTS advocates for long-term solutions to the problem of homelessness.
