ON TAP
The Titans return home to host Concordia University in a Friday night tilt. Detroit is fresh off a slim 59-53 loss at Notre Dame on Monday. This will be the first-ever meeting between the schools.
ABOUT CONCORDIA
The Cardinals are 3-2 on the young season and are coming off a win against Bethel College on Tuesday in Ann Arbor. The Cards, a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), compete at the NAIA level. Rocko Holmes leads the team in scoring with a 17.8 points-per-game clip and is also the top rebounder at 9.8 per contest.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Following Friday, Detroit embarks on a stretch with four away from Calihan Hall. Monday, UDM will compete at the Progressive CBE Classic with three games in three nights at Bowling Green. Detroit battles George Washington on Monday, the host Falcons on Tuesday and close the trip with a Wednesday tilt against Austin Peay. The following Saturday, the road trip ends with a duel at Akron.
LAST TIME OUT
A second-half dryspell allowed host Notre Dame to slip past Detroit, 59-53 at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center in the Regional Round of the Progressive CBE Classic Monday night. The Titans, who led for most of the first half and the opening minutes of the second stanza, did not score for over seven minutes to let the home team sneak out the victory.
Ray McCallum finished as the game's leading scorer (20), adding seven rebounds and four assists to his stat line.
LaMarcus Lowe had eight points, 10 rebounds and five blocks before fouling out while
Chase Simon added 13 points and a game-best 11 rebounds
100
Coach Ray McCallum will be on the sidelines for his 100th career game as the Titan head man Friday. McCallum has led Detroit to back-to-back winning seasons after a seven-win campaign in his first year. The 20-win total in 2009-10 was one of the largest turnarounds in the country and marked the best improvement in Detroit history. He's looking to lead the Titans back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998-99.
#3 3-for-3 FROM 3
Ray McCallum had a quick nine points early in the first half of the loss at Notre Dame. With the Titans trailing 6-0 early, McCallum hit on three straight triples and later hit a fourth from deep as Detroit led 31-28 at the break.
SIMON SAYS
Chase Simon recorded his third career double-double with a 13-point, 11-rebound effort at Notre Dame Monday. He's the first Titan to record a double-double this season and it's the first time he's done it since a 20-point, 10-rebound line against UIC on Jan. 30, 2010. His rebound total was one shy of a career record (12 at Milwaukee- Jan. 14, 2010).

Senior
LaMarcus Lowe swatted away five shots at Notre Dame Monday, marking his seventh game in his Titan career with five or more blocks. His career best came last year in an overtime win at Eastern Michigan (Dec. 11, 2010) when he threw aside eight shots. He has led the team in blocked shots in 24 of his career 35 games at Detroit.
CHASE-ING 1,000
Chase Simon's 946-point total in a Titan uniform leaves him in striking distance to soon become just the 35th Detroit player to reach the 1,000-point plateau at the school. Simon has 1,044 collegiate points to his credit with this being his third season in a Detroit uniform following his freshman campaign at Central Michigan.
DICK VITALE COURT AT CALIHAN HALL TO BE DEDICATED DEC. 5
Dick Vitale, ESPN broadcaster, college basketball ambassador and former Titan head coach and athletic director, will be honored in December when the University of Detroit Mercy athletics department names its basketball court at Calihan Hall in his honor. Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall will be dedicated in conjunction with a nationally-televised event against Big EAST foe St. John's on December 5, 2011 with tip at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
Vitale will be celebrating his 32nd anniversary of calling games for ESPN at the event. Vitale sat courtside for ESPN's first-ever NCAA basketball game – Wisconsin at DePaul on Dec. 5, 1979 (a 90-77 DePaul win). Since then, he's called close to a thousand games, including NBA contests for ESPN during the 1983 and '84 seasons.
