ON TAP
The Titans travel to Bowling Green State University for the Progressive CBE Classic Subregional Monday through Wednesday. Detroit will play three games in as many nights. Action starts at 5:00 p.m. Monday as Detroit battles George Washington. Tuesday features the host Falcons against the Titans at 7:30 p.m. and the trip concludes Wednesday with a Detroit-Austin Peay matchup at 5:00 p.m.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
The Colonials beat Maryland-Eastern Shore in their opener before succumbing to Cal last Thursday, 81-54. GW is led by Tony Taylor, who scored 20 points in each of the two contests. Five different players average at least four rebounds per game through the early going, led by Aaron Ware's 5.5 clip per contest.
SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN
The Falcons are 1-1 on the season, winning the grand opening of the Stroh Center over Howard on Nov. 11. BGSU fell 63-54 at Georgia in its most recent outing (Nov. 13). Dee Brown is the leading scorer thus far (13.0 ppg) while Scott Thomas contributes 8.0 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY
The Governors, the preseason Ohio Valley Conference favorites, are led by a pair of preseason All-OVC selections in TyShawn Edmondson and Anthony Campbell. Josh Terry leads the Govs in scoring through three games (14.3 ppg) and John Fraley is the team's leading rebounder (10.0 rpg) but has been sidelined due to concussion since the opener.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Detroit concludes its road swing through Ohio Saturday as it takes on Akron University. The Zips were 77-69 winners over Detroit last season.
LAST TIME OUT
Six Titans scored in double figures, powering Detroit past Concordia (Mich.) 113-68 Friday night at Calihan Hall. The offensive output was the highest Titan point total since a 115-101 win over Loyola 22 years ago. Career highs from
Jason Calliste (triples- 6), a double-double from
Doug Anderson (12 pts, 13 rbs) and zero Detroit turnovers in the second half all helped the score became lop-sided in the final half of play. The Titans' 65 points in the final 20 minutes came on 25-of-40 shooting and featured seven three-pointers.
QUITE A CENTURY MARK
Coach McCallum was on the sidelines for his 100th career game as the Titan head man Friday. Some highlights from the win:
*First 100-point game since 1998 (85th in UDM history)
*Highest point output (113) in 22 years
*Six players in double figures
*65 second-half points
*Eight players with at least nine points
*
Chase Simon flirted with a triple-double (12 pts, 9 rbs, 8 assts)
*
Doug Anderson had a double-double (12 pts, 13 rbs)
*
Evan Bruinsma was one point shy of a double-double (9 pts, 10 rbs)
CALLISTE ON FIRE FROM DEEP
In the second half of the win over Concordia Friday, junior
Jason Calliste went on a stretch where he connected from deep five times in 5:05. On the night, the sharp-shooter collected a career-high six from distance, finishing with a game-high 19 points.
SIX PACK
Six different Titans scored in double figures in the blowout win over Concordia. While it may seem to be a rare occurrence for such balanced scoring, Detroit did it just four games prior-- a 90-69 win over Loyola in the Horizon League Tournament First Round last season.
FIRST START A GOOD ONE
Junior
Doug Anderson earned his first start in a Titan uniform Friday and he made the most of it. The transfer from Mott Community College scored 12 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds to etch his first Division I double-double.
BOUTTE GETS IT TO 100
Freshman
P.J. Boutte scored his first collegiate points with a three-pointer with 3:09 to play in the win over Concordia. It pushed the Titans over the 100-point barrier for the game. He would later add another triple to give him six points for the contest.
CHASE-ING 1,000
Chase Simon's 958-point total in a Titan uniform leaves him in striking distance to soon become just the 35th Detroit player to reach the 1,000-point plateau at the school. Simon has 1,056 collegiate points to his credit with this being his third season in a Detroit uniform following his freshman campaign at Central Michigan.
SHOTS FROM THE HEART
Head Coach Ray McCallum will participate in the second annual Shots From the Heart Tournament, benefiting the Skip Prosser Foundation. McCallum is competing in a 64-person, bracket-style single elimination free-throw shooting tournament with 63 other NCAA Division I head coaches. His first round opponent is John Groce of Ohio University. Each coach will shoot 25 free-throws at their convenience and report the results. First round competition will be complete at the end of November. Follow detroittitans.com for updates on Coach Ray's progress in the tourney. For more on the "Shots from the Heart", got to

DICK VITALE COURT AT CALIHAN HALL TO BE DEDICATED DEC. 5
Dick Vitale, ESPN broadcaster, college basketball ambassador and former Titan head coach and athletic director, will be honored in December when the University of Detroit Mercy athletics department names its basketball court at Calihan Hall in his honor. Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall will be dedicated in conjunction with a nationally-televised event against Big EAST foe St. John's on December 5, 2011 with tip at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
Vitale will be celebrating his 32nd anniversary of calling games for ESPN at the event. Vitale sat courtside for ESPN's first-ever NCAA basketball game – Wisconsin at DePaul on Dec. 5, 1979 (a 90-77 DePaul win). Since then, he's called close to a thousand games, including NBA contests for ESPN during the 1983 and '84 seasons.
